You were obviously dancing as though no one was watching, the best way to dance!
As always, your writing has the wry humor that makes it so much fun to read:
"My face, forty years on, constrained from flouting its mask, made up for it by flaunting its eyebags." All of us of a certain age can relate. Not all of us can laugh about it; I'm so glad that I can.

Your little introspection perfectly illustrates how different people latch on to different aspects of a person, and contribute to the overall picture of who that person is. Sort of like 10 blind people describing an elephant.
Your piece also reminds us to always smile because you never know who's watching and falling in love with that smile!

Terrific read.

Ageing is indeed a remarkable process that opens door doors for new opportunities and strength. I believe in ageing gracefully and honestly. Call a spade a spade. Why bother about niceties. I am amazed at your command on the vocabulary. a learning experience for me. I am happy you chose my painting for your 'wow' note. Thanks.

Oh my goodness! That was a back-handed compliment! Interesting to read about others' families and their awkward social situations and interactions. Well written, as always.

I am struck by a couple of things in this post. You certainly have a way with words and I think it is admirable that the memory someone has of you from 38 years ago was you having fun flailing and flapping. HAHA

Lol! Oh dear! Well, you made an impression on Lorraine. But it sounds like it was a good impression and she could recognize you right away after so many years. Sounds like it was a good event after all. So many couldn't have real funerals during this year. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't amazing that some people seem to be complimenting you with words that are just downright degrading. The circumstances you describe so well must have been a bit awkward, but then this person makes it worse. Or, did you care?

Well, that last comment from her was, hmm, rude, but she was 15. She could've should've kept that to herself. Was she trying to make herself look better now, I wonder? You did a good job, Liz,, even though it was writing about a funeral. I don't know how you kept all those people straight and remembered them while their faces were half hidden by the masks.
Respectfully, Jan

Oh my, what an awful thing to say after all that time if this is a tale of a real event. I am not sure if you write fiction. If so it is really good but if it is real I say the same; it is written really good. Some people have no regard for others' feelings.

I'm glad I held on tightly to my sixes, I can see that I may run out soon though. I love your self depreciating humor, only a true humor writer can pull this off, very well done Elizabeth. Don

I really enjoyed this story. It shows that you made an impact on someone for being yourself! No fear of being foolish!
With every bday, my give a ;$;@( meter lowers, so I applaud you for having the courage all of those years ago!
