I remember that feeling of when I gave my daughters away. My Grandson just turned eighteen and I fear my time with him is getting shorter by the moment. Don

Beautiful words to share with your daughter and all of us. "For her radiance
/now glows/anew", a wonderful line to describe her as you let go of the reigns. All the best, thanks for sharing.

Hello, Victor,
I guess this poem is about your daughter and the picture must be hard as a baby....so cute. She is getting married and it must feel like you are giving her up to her husband... it's hard to let go. Well done!

It is a bittersweet moment when we hand over a daughter to her future husband. But a part of her will always be a part of you. Embrace the memories and future blessings.

Your daughter is lucky to have such a father, and she would be lucky to have you speak those words to her. Very well written and a message of true impact. It's nice to see tender poetry that isn't sappy.

The speech I gave to my future son inlaw was that she is used to being treated a certain way and if you insist on not treating her that way, she will surely return to the place where she can once again enjoy that treatment, so, be aware.

And I love your speech.
I do think fathers retain
their protective nature.
Thank you,

Definitely thoughts that must pass through most loving, devoted fathers as they hand their precious daughters into someone else's hands. A very beautiful poem. Smiles to you!

Often persons sign documents but deny that they are responsible for the content or directives. That is bad, that is sad.
Oftentimes parents want to have a meaningful and lasting influence on their
child, yet they shrink from credit or responsibility. That is sad.
Each parent is forever responsible for their children, and should be proud of the perpetual light they have cast on their children, and bask in the reflected light that is returned to them.
The children will leave the homestead; the values instilled in them will not falter, although they will be tested.
Although metaphorically speaking it is said that a Torch is passed, perhaps it could also be said that THE DNA and life, love, and success, of parents, resides in a different location, the influence of the parents, will have created a mantra for their children: "Remember always, you will never walk alone."

I think the hardest thing for parents (in the normal scheme of things) is that day when a child sets out to build their own family. Lovely poem to remind us of that.

I think the image of the torch passing, the light going from one life to another, is a powerful image. You get that sense of one person dimming, the other brightening. The short lines also underscore this sense of bits of thought and emotion carrying on from place to place, stanza to stanza. Nice sense of form following function. estory
