I can't think of a lovelier speech to give the groom along with your daughter's hand. The way you describe her, Victor, I don't think you have to worry. She'll always be a daddy's girl! If the date hasn't come yet, then may the note be creased at its folds in you pocket, and aged for years until you open and offer it.

I shall crease and fold as you suggest. And open it when ripe.
Hopefully without tears.
Thank you,

This is so sweet. As a daughter and a mother I can appreciate the feelings within it. I see it has been recognized and is listed as an All Time Best for January. Congratulations.
Cheers.

I admit it. This brought tears to my eyes. So hard to "give her away"--you have been her hero all of her life and suddenly that torch is passed to another. It must me earthshaking, even as you wish and contemplate joy you hope she finds. I prefer the old adage "You're not losing a daughter, you're gaining a son."--Denial hurts less!--Karenina

My Mom told me when I gave birth to my son (firstborn)---that I had two jobs to do.
1) Teach him how to walk
2) Teach him how to walk away
She forgot to tell me how hard holding someone with an open hand can be!
Best wishes to your daughter...

I enjoyed this poem very much! It is sweet and endearing. I like the reference of the promises a father makes to his children and then to the promises a husband makes to his wife. This was written very well!
Thanks for sharing!

It is so really good to see you again! I'm trying to catch up with the
folks I've been missing since I've been gone.
I absolutely love this poem and think it would have been a wonderful
speech to give as you gave your daughter to another man. When my
daughter got married, I told her husband that no one was giving her
to him, rather she chose him to be by her side and we agreed it was
a good choice.
I love the shirt your daughter is wearing in this picture.

One of the hardest things he ever had to do... that's what Daddy told me. Such a wonderful offering here, Doug -- like the use of the short syllabic verses to convey both mood and memory... Bet her smile is just as filled with sunshine today as it is here! ;) Thanx for sharing and good luck with the awesome speech, Dad! ;) Yvette

Victor,
What on earth would you have to be contrite about, pray tell??? It seems quite evident you adore this child.
I know how my hubby reacted on the days he had to give our two girls away. It was pleasant to watch. (Though he kept the worst of it behind closed doors, bless him.)
I think this is precious. I might extend it a liiitttle? But that might kill you, sooo...
Thanks--

Hi Doug, doesn't matter how many you have my sweet friend...
it's hard to see them go...each one takes a part of you with them...it seems there babies...running all over the house...and then they are teens...discovering who they are...growing into adults...and time to leave the nest...
I think that would be a wonderful idea...something so personal is always treasured...I wish her and her husband all the luck in the world...
I love your precious wedding poem...and love your precious picture...priceless...she is an angel...so very nicely written...God Bless...Love Linda xxoo
