Thank you for this post. I've wondered how to get to the eternal flame page. Somehow, I've searched for authors but never noticed the "eternal" link there on the left.
I do miss adewpearl's poetry, and her classes. I learned a lot from her both in class and just asking questions.
Gungalo was also helpful. She took me under her wing when I started and taught me about reviewing and fanning the writer's.
Now I can go back and read some of my favorites. THANK YOU!

All three of those you have mentioned were a big help to me and had become friends. Dean and I had planned to meet-up near the University of Cincinnati a few times but something always managed to get in the way. Then, I went away for two years and when I came back he along with Michael and other had passed or moved on. Thanks for the heads up, I'm headed to the eternal link now. Thanks for sharing.

I almost met Dean a few years back when he was trying to sort out a trip to England. Sadly it all fell through. These guys were great and deserve to still be read. G

What a great suggestion. I had wondered about the eternal flame option, as I would like to be remembered after I am gone. I long to leave a lasting impression on the world, and through this choice, I might be able to. This very well written post is an excellent selling point for the use of the eternal flame. I do not have any anecdotes to share but, this entertained me. I also am intrigued, by your Bio note's usage of the phrase, "to blur the boundaries between genres." The intelligence and sophistication exhibited by this non-fiction piece are refreshing and stimulating.

The blurring the lines thing is fun. I have a western character who so far has managed to be in a western, a fantasy epic and a horror story. It's a lot of fun. I tend to write without genres in mind. One of the drawbacks when submitting to publications though is they never know where to put them! lol Many thanks GMG

Yes, I am torn between writing poetry, and essays, and have difficulty keeping within the parameters 'they' set for me. I would like to write any old way I choose but, finding a category that fits, is a problem. I guess a lot of writers go through that.

I write most of my daughter's stuff down. She's 9 and we have files filled with stories. For fun she'll tell or write a story and then I'll take it and put my spin on it - some she can't read though! lol many thanks GMG

I thought it was a super post. You speak of our roots as writers, our time spent on the site, our preoccupation with our own ends...and then you bring in these forgotten writers whose work we can still access through the eternal flame policy. It is a great reminder of those who we have forgotten because we no longer get the notices of their posts. And it is a great idea to remember them and read them once in a while, if nothing else to keep alive the love of writing we all share. Some of these I didn't know had passed on, just thought they had left the site. Certainly true of Dean. And I can add my old friend Luna to that list, for sure. estory

He's not on the main list but is still on the eternal list. You can access it from there. I spent ages trying to find him by other means. Much appreciated. G

I've known all three well of course, they were all I live and "kicking" when I joined some 8years ago, one would think they would last forever, but sadly, none of us do. Beautifully written, oh...we all procrastinate I guess, none worse than me. Blessings Roy
