We also get the stats here. But I guess its best to be informed, too. Soon we will be able to hear better news. I have a positive feeling that life will get better, if we are careful.

Totally right, people must learn when enough is enough and be able to press the OFF switch. It is not emotionally healthy to be dragged down by fear. One must be wise, and look for good, and hope and courage, and mutual support. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights.

You're so right about that! The news here really are sensationalistic. Sometimes, the newscaster is out of breath trying to scare us. But we do have over 400,000 deaths so it's very somber here. Thanks for reminding us to not overdose on news!

what you call it here, folklore, (suggest "folk music" folklore is stories)

I don't know why the news keeps smothering us with coronavirus information, updates, and warnings. I mean, nobody has bothered to listen and heed the warnings anyway. They've gone right on in American with parties, travel, restaurants, and bars, killing 400,000 to date, and a predicted 500,000 by the end of February. I don't know the numbers in Canada or Romania, but people are people wherever you go. Thanks for sharing.

You are so right, and in Romania at the rhythm they declare the dead , the country should be depopulated like at least five times by now:)

I like your last line the best. Edit the news and watch what you want to watch. That really is the nature of our society today. But it is true; the news has become sensation driven; its all about the ratings. And nothing gets your attention than a death toll. I'm willing to bet half the deaths are made up because they are counting all kinds of people who died of heart disease and stroke and diabetes if they tested positive for coronavirus. Colds are coronavirus. Know what the percent of people of North Carolina who have died from Covid-19? .07%. estory

In Romania you reach the hospital, you are dead meat - of Covid, of course.

Yes, too much news can be overwhelming. I think it was Edgar Allan Poe that said that journalists are not in the business of reporting the news, they are in the business of selling the news. And bad news makes for better ratings. I would love to have a better mix. What went right with the world today?
Years ago, I started skipping the nightly news before going to bed. I found I slept much better. I can face the bad stuff first thing in the morning and I have more time to put it into perspective.
Well written. Good job getting your point across by sharing personal examples.

Entertaining!! Skillfully done!! The first paragraph intrigues and establishes a voice and tone that you maintain until the last paragraph.

The grammatical problems may be used on purpose, but the reader may suspect you don't know they exist: anything else, just death--sound and and vision are two different things. they not so--they refers to what noun?

The conclusion is weak in that you have dropped the voice and tone of the rest of the narrative.

To be perfectly honest, I am skipping the news altogether. I am tired of hearing lies. Nobody knows the truth about what's happening anywhere because nobody can tell the truth anymore. I remember hearing a CNN newscaster tell us it was a peaceful protest and in the background there were fires and explosions. That's NOT peaceful. Thank you for sharing.

You are right. What does it matter how many died today, they were infected two weeks ago and since they didn't realise it, they can never be a reliable statistic. Just keep singing Happy Birthday while you wash your hands wear a mask and stay at home and perhaps you'll live to watch the news in two weeks time!

I agree with you-- select the news we want to watch and hear! I am so tired of the constant covid-19 news. I'll be so happy when I never hear about it again.
