Hi Iza. All I can say is I have four novels published (not self published either) and I have never thrown caution to the wind in my query letters when I was seeking a publisher.
There is a certain way it is done and publishers/agents are approached and "catchy grabbers don't get it) catchy lines are for when a writer is trying to get the attention of his or her reader. These are called "hooks" by the way.
I suggest anyone who is serious about being published, read articles put out by 'Writer's Digest" The best publication for beginners I think.
I wouldn't have remarked on anything you said, but I didn't want some novice going off half-cocked and following such humorous ideas. Bless you. Bob

Hello Mr. Bob, you are so right about the hooks:) I think I deviated a little bit from the resume for publishers to the resume for getting hired:) I would like to read about your experience with publishing, since I am one of those so-called self published author back in Romania:)

You can start by yourself buy a copy put out by " published once every year. (not Readers Digest mind you) but "Writer's Digest" Available at Barnes and Noble and amazon. It's been a while but I believe it is called "Agents and Publishers Guide for writers". It costs about forty dollars but is worth every penny. They can do much more for your mind and in an orderly fashion than I can. It is a little involved to explain. Let me know if you have a problem finding it. Published once every year around this time of year...January. Good Luck. Bob

Oh shit. You are correct, I use that line all of the time. It's on my profile here, but I dressed it up a little, gave it added flare. Shouldn't this line read as I have been writing:
"I am writing since I was ten..."

The real trick is to put in personality, and that you do in these posts. All the little jokes, the sarcasm, the questioning of authority; that's what makes these posts worth reading and gives us a bit of an insight into alternative thinking. estory

I love that, and you are so right. You have to say something exciting to get their attention. It's been a while since I applied for a job, and won't be again. Much too old. But the same priciple applies to writing to publishers. You have to say something to grab their attention. I'm still trying! LOL. I enjoyed this, Iza, well done. :)) Sandra xx

Fortunately I do not have to create a resume in these terrible economic times. Your essay, with its sardonic tone, was fun to read. Your new catch phrase in your own personal profile should grab the attention of the interviewer. Rod

You did a great job, Iza, with your message to writers. I agree with what you wrote. I like the use of bold font for the emphasis on writers/writing. I understand what you included about what the recruiter may be thinking as you are being interviewed.
May I suggest ~
Master of words [no comma ] juggling [ juggler of concepts ] concepts, that's me the new prototype of a writer,
Respectfully, Jan

I had to laugh at this post. We had just moved to Texas and I was interviewing for teaching positions. I had tons of experience in many different states and countries. MY husband was military and we moved often. One of the questions, was to tell something negative about ourselves. I finally asked my husband to help me. His answer, "You are always very professional but when goes unchecked you can be ditsy." I told the panel of interviewers that. I got the job and letter one of them told me that was the right answer. They said, "She'd fit in perfect at this school."

Okay! Thanks for the pep talk, Iza! I now can think about sending out some pieces outside of Fanstory, very tentatively. Oh yeah, as a "master of words!"
a little beat of imagination is part of your trademark. (bit? instead of beat)
Master of words, joggling (juggling?)
