Thank you for sharing this story. It sounds like you worked hard to earn your teaching degree and It was good to know that an unfortunate illness did not stand in the way of the future you had planned for yourself. Your bio says you are retired from teaching...hopefully you enjoyed your career in the classroom. Teachers are frequently unsung heroes so, please allow me to thank you for your work.

Lyn, I am retired from full-time teaching but still work 29 hours a week part-time as an Algebra 1 Coach. Rdfrdmom2

A great story of how a person can be encouraged by the words of another who believes in them. So glad you persevered and that this worked out for you. Well written.

That was a stroke of luck! You must have impressed him for him to say you were worth waiting for. So what your adviser told you wasn't true for you. Did you ever see him/her again? Good for you. :)) Sandra xx

Yes, I was on campus a few years later and told Gary I had been successful. He gave me a huge hug and congratulated me. It was a great moment. Rdfrdmom2

Sometimes all it takes is one person believing in us to help push us toward accomplishing our goals. I enjoyed this true flashback of gratitude. One typo needs corrected: ()at the high school from which I graduated)

Kudos to you and to the man who bothered to peek out of the box. Deligthful story--Heartwarming, uplfiting, skillfully written!

sugg: these turns-of-event=>the turn of events (no hyphens)

sugg parentheses (as inserted below) for clarity, or rearrange clauses.

I signed a contract to teach mathematics at the high school (from which I graduated) during Spring Break of my senior year at Longwood, contingent, of course, of my successful graduation in August 1972.

Great things come to those who persevere, right? You did a great job telling of how you graduated without student teaching. I've never heard of anyone doing that, but maybe because the ones I knew went the normal way. Congratulations on a job well done. Your story is told with great feeling and imagery.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

So glad that you had the confidence to make the right decision and that the HR coordinator believed in you and held the position for you. I'm glad you documented this and wonder who you are writing for? Do you plan to publish it or is it for your family?
I felt there were a few places you could have written dialogues like your conversation with the HR Coordinator and with the advisor.

lyenochka: Right now I am writing it just to get my thoughts down for my daughter (who is a superb teacher) and my granddaughter. If I decide to do more with it, I will likely try to flesh it out more. Thanks for the review. Rdfrdmom2

R,

It's always an amazing advantage to have folks who believe in and support you. Somehow, it gives us the courage and confidence to attack things we might never have even considered. *smile* Nicely done. Congrats!

A very well-written heartfelt story about when your desired plans did not worked out as it was planned. With determination we can find an alternative way and still reach our goal.
