I can see why you turned this poem into a song, I can just imagine somone standing with one foot on a chair, resting his elbow on his knee and strumming his guitar singing your song. The imagery is vivid. The words are a story, just like some of those country ballads. I really enjoyed this, well done! :)) Sandra x

Thank you for your review. You are very kind. Sometimes when I see the treasures we take for granted, some of the old timers and all they have to say if we would just ask, I get nostalgic for the times before computers, and cell phones. Seemed like people sat out on the porch a lot more......

I really like this poem! Your monologue sounds like any regular farming couple talking and thinking. Your words are descriptive and I was able to picture what was going on line to line. Great job! Should make a neat song!

Thank you Patty. Spencer and Freda were classic. Now there is no indication that they were ever there. They still live in my mind, and in my poem I guess. Again thank you for your kind words.

This was one remarkable poem. I could just imagine it all, as you paint a scene with your words. It's not only clever in content but also in the way it weaves its pattern.

I don't believe I've read your works before, but I will from now on. How absolutely charming. It's a rare gift to be able to write so eloquently about seemingly normal life...and in it's vernacular too.
Loved it.

Your saying, your song. Is all about living and dying. The circle of life says, you are born, you live, have and raise children, and then you die. But the world and the things in the world keep going on. they serve each generation so that life may continue on.

Thank you sir. You are right about the spirit circle of life. The end is the beginning, the beginning the end. In the place where I went to visit them, there is nothing to show that they were ever there. Maybe only this poem. A lesson about our monuments to ourselves. Perhaps just a song we passed down to our children.

Hello, Brian,
I love the imagery in your poem.
"the wind slams the screen door again."
"wheat fields,
Whistling and a waving,"
I love the story in your poem of an old couple that spent their life together and live in a comfortable routine.
Well done!

Nice conversational tone to the language, easy to listen to, easy to relate. Nice echoing effects with the rhymes and alliterations. What I really liked were the details of the images, the paint on the tractor, the voice on the radio relating the weather, the cigarette smoke and the dust blowing in the air that seems to portray the ephemeral nature of life on the farm. That dust bowl memory at the bottom of everyone's mind, that sense that all is here today, gone tomorrow. And life will have to struggle on. estory

My grandparents were tenant farmers and I helped on the farm as a child. This poem visually took me back a good sixty years in my mind. Very well written and this will make an excellent ballad.

I enjoyed reading about Spencer and Freda. It is lyrical and was a pleasure to read aloud. I loved the ending and how it hooked back into the past..
Very nicely done.
