This 5-7-5, France in Anger, has the right set up and continues the renga with a nod to terrorism which is becoming more homegrown everyday. People are a sad animal.

Thank you for reviewing, Bill

But why? Was this recent or are you remembering another event when of "France in Anger?" I like how you have three neatly rhyming lines in your 5-7-5. It's sad when we don't even know what people are angry about anymore. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for reviewing, Helen. They were called the 'gilets jaunes' from their clothing and began to riot about petrol and food prices. It was supposed to be a one off in November 2018, but things went from bad to worse adding taxes and many other gripes to their agenda and the riots became more and more violent. The shopkeepers were brought to their knees for the first time at Christmas 2018 (no deliveries could get through and clients were also stopped by the riots). The wave of aggression went on right until the Covid lockdown in March 2020 (shopkeepers hit again), and the strikes and demonstrations certainly started again immediately lockdown ended (early summer 2020). Since then things have become confused in my mind as I have to follow England as well (my parents are there, and they are in lockdown so I can't reach them) and things in the US are explosive. In France we are being threatened with a third lockdown, and I can't see beyond that at the moment...

This sounds like a very interesting project. I'm not a poet, but enjoy reading poetry, and always enjoy reading your work. France in Anger rhymes easily and says a lot. I would love to read the collections of poetry as they are added to the book.

Thank you for reviewing Lorraine, and I'm so pleased and grateful you enjoy my work.
This is indeed a fascinating and absorbing project. It's my third expedition into the book I think, as I read many of the chapters and sometimes the magic is just there. This chapter is 41, so if you look at the top of the page when reading you will see that you can select chapters (in blue) before or after that to read... I also wasn't a poet at all when I joined this site, but I am moving away from that idea

Thank you for the information on the blue numbers at the top of the page. I've never clicked on them until now, and enjoyed beautiful artwork and poetry by contributors. Thanks for the FanStory training.

you're welcome. It's sort of a site tradition to help each other whenever we can rather than hindering. You only have to ask. If I know the answer I'll be more than happy to pass info on.

Hello, Katherine,
Great chapter for the renga 2 book. I like the imagery and presentation. Good syllable count and connection between lines. Well done!

It's this poem about the fire at Notre Dame? I am so sorry that I was not able to see this miracle of French architecture.i was so close to it in 2005. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

No, it's about the social uprising called 'gilets jaunes' that started in November 2018

I see you incorporated my suggestion for instructions for viewing prior chapters! This is a fine segue--you made wise use of title space to put this in context!

What a sad, although true, picture. I enjoyed reading your poignant contribution to the book, Katherine. I like the use of rhyme and the feeling of despair from your words over the situation.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you for your insightful assessment of my poem, much appreciated.

Hello Katherine.
I understand the sentiment in the poem. The picture could be from any number of cities in America. SAD.
I like the use of homonyms in the last line. I have done that several times. It is a great tool in my opinion.

Thank you for reviewing. Yes, the world is in a sorry state. I reward myself as I can (hence the homonyms that I like almost as much as homographs). your friend Katherine
PS dare I ask how the book is coming along?

You're welcome.
Well, the book is going through rewrites and some minor edits. My advisors really like the poetry. I may just do poetry and then a book of fables. Thank you for asking.

Comment from Gloria ....
I Imagine it's a continuation of the same thing. When people are hurting financially there is trouble.
Excellent addition to Gypsy's book. It's great to see how popular they are. :)

It's a great project. Each time i've added a chapter I feel as though a cloud has been lifted from my mind. Thanks for reading and reviewing. Katherine

We see these riots around the world and don't always fully understand the reason for them as once a riot has started it seems to escalate out of control and the original reason for it is lost. A fine poignant poem, love Dolly x

Thank you for your fine review. I feel a bit bad about this poem as I actually themed it to follow Gypsy's chapter 39, and then didn't want to change it even though Ulla had toned down the theme -look on it as a riot in itself. Love Katherine
