Where did she get the match? Just wondering. Think about it. I am with you even cutting our way out of the tent. Could using the flint do the trick if the torch is extremely soaked with pitch?
Just asking. I have never done this before so I don't know.

I was trying to figure out a way for her to use the flintstone for later, I'm in uncharted territory too. I just hope I can get them safely out of the cave.

Grass rubbed between the palms will sometimes dry it to a place allowing flint sparks to heat the substance into smoking, from there gently blow on the eated area and a tiny flame wil appear. Your breath gives the needed oxygen to start the flame into turning brighter. You can light the pitch in this manner. Keep the dryness and the oxygen flowing until it is where it will catch. Hope this helps.
Not sure but see if google will enlighten the subject.

In the cave there should be some dried debris of some kind. The other person by now should know how to rub two sticks together against the flint and make friction. The hands can get tired and the palms raw after much moment but in the long run it will be worth it. The Navajo does his and so do the Apache. I am no sure if I have or not don't remember a lot of my trapping days and living with the Navajo was in the seventies. I am sure I did or I would not remember what I told you.
Look up some of the trial questions and ask. They should be able to give you what you should know.. Either the Kiowa site or any

This is a very exciting chapter. I was disappointed when it ended and I hope you post another one soon. I'm glad they have escaped and I hoping they can just keep going.
