Hi,
I read through this kiddie poem, and I enjoyed.
(I read it to my daughter, and she was a bit offended (she liked it... she's 7) but she was like ... A teddy bear! Oh, that's so not fair.) But... to give some context, we have two birds, a dog, a fish, a turtle, and babysit the class bunny and guinea pigs and lizard over long weekends, as well as have had pet rats not that long ago.
So I think she was thinking the mom would get ALL the pets by the end of the poem for the girl. Which I thought was cute. The poem was fun to read for me, though like I said, my daughter was not okay with hearing the pet was a teddy bear.
A few other thoughts:
But mom won't compromise.
You are consistent so I don't think it's a problem, but
I think it's Mom... My mom. I call her Mom.
I have to call my mom. Hey, Mom...
I went up into my room
(This was the only line I tripped over for flow, the rest of the lines I knew what the beat was, but I couldn't find it for this line)

Thank you so much! Please tell your daughter that I'm sorry she was disappointed. I was thinking of that ending because my kids wanted a dog so badly growing up and I did not get one for them till several years later. They adopted bugs and frogs as pets.

That is so cute. Rhyming is good and you have captured the desire of most children to have a pet. I like the way the mother solved it, a teddy bear is so much easier to look after.
