Thank You! Part of this story was true, a remnant of my confusing past. An Irish romantic has to learn the hard way, how to protect that supreme organ that circulates our life-giving blood.

I don't know that it would do any good to rate this poem, as you've already rightfully won. What a wonderful, poignant poem. I'm fairly new to this site, and I've already been treated to some writing that I never knew existed. I've never enjoyed poetry before, but my eyes have been opened and I'm embracing some really great stuff. Congratulations on your win. It is well deserved.

How beautiful, Irish. Smooth rhymes and strong rhythm. So easy to get caught up in the images and the passion. And good just to see your name come up and know that my friend Irish is still out there, still writing poetry and loving the world. You give me comfort, Irish! Beautiful!

I see you have given credit where almost no credit is due, and, while I thank you for your generosity, I must state the truth... I had very little to do with the beautiful and heartfelt poem you have produced here. What makes a poem is the sincerity of emotion and the careful selection of appropriate language to express that emotion. Those were all yours. I merely offered a few suggestions for improved meter. This poem did not need me. You obviously have a feel for poetic expression and I hope we will see more of it in the near future. I very much enjoyed reading this. It tells a story that shines with originality and love. ~ MM

Poignant--elegant and graceful--bold, fresh imagery: closer to the flame--felt halved when kept apart--severing sword--good thing for the others that this isn't in the romance contest!

This is a sad and touching story within a poem about true love that was thwarted. My favorite line is "Half my heart stayed with you, the broken half remained."

The album of memories we carry around full of bittersweet.
You capture the innocence and the lingering 'what if' that make us question our age. How can we still feel something that young while being so old? A poem like this makes me wonder about the nature of time. It seems impossible that the past and the present aren't occurring simultaneously.
Well done, irish!
Peace, Lee

Wow, thank you, Lee, for your intuitive insight and all the stars! I wonder about the same things and often wish we could have a better insight into what is really happening, instead of these little glimpses that just give us more questions. And you got it right, this was written from my life.
Cheers, irish

Fabulous! The construction, the rhyme, the strength, the feeling: I'm literally left reeling! I could feel the love, the angst, the loss. Marvelous! Can't say enough........thank you for sharing.
