Hi Mark,
I love the idea of this. And it wouldn't surprise me if there were ghosts. But I'm just wondering if it might be better to concentrate on the haunting of the place rather than the individual ghosts. Do you know what I mean?
Like, if you omitted "ghosts", and went for the prison itself. Instead of ghosts shrieking, Alcatraz shrieks through cold cells. Just a thought.
Great idea for the 2-5-2 poem! I wish you good luck if the contest is till in the works.
Cheers,
Kimbob

Your inspired comments gave me an idea to edit the organization of my 2-5-2. Methinks it does improve its read for other FS reviewers.

Ciao Marco!

You pack so much in only a handful of words .. I felt the chills

I saw a documentary about three convicts that escaped .. they made a dingy .. the authorities are not sure if they drowned or made it .. the currents are strong and the water very cold ..

what I thought was ingenious is how they made the dingy , found and stole the material needed , made the glue to put the pieces together etc and all under the nose of the guards.

There is a famous film called Birdman of Alcatraz.. it's about a prisoner that started to take care of birds and learnt how to treat them ..his remedies became famous

.... unlike the title kinda suggests , only in later life he was transferred to Alcatraz , where he was not allowed to keep any birds anymore.

Burt Lancaster is one of my top favourite actors ( the rainmaker , the Rose tattoo with our Anna Magnani , Elmer Gantry..)

It was definitely a great spot to have a prison.

I wouldn't go visit it .. I have no doubt that it's haunted..

Thanks for the additional notes below!

    Thanks Tempeste! The Birdman of Alcatraz was a terrific movie. The Birdman?s surname, Shroud, reflects the bleakness of his life in isolation. My family visited this place so I stood in one of the cells as a tourist visitor. (-;

    Ciao Marco!

I would have loved to share second place with you .. ( smile)

Our entries were opposites .. mine humorous, yours deep .. which has for me more value.

Looking forward to reading more of your engaging, thought provoking poems !

I hope you have a peaceful Sunday.

    Ciao!

Although I have never been to Alcatraz I did visit the Eastern states penitentiary so I picture that when I read this piece. You have created a very bleak atmosphere. Well done.

    Susan,

I was there in their bleak cells - as a tourist visitor! You likely saw the Birdman of Alcatraz - a terrific movie about a real convict named Shroud - fitting name for the bleak existence of their lives on The Rock.

THANKS for your review and stars.

Wow! You have certainly painted a vivid image with your words. This must have been an awful place and even without the picture you included, it sounds dreadful.
