Thanks for the history footnote and the somewhat humorous epitaph for the poor miner who got the gold he wanted but lost the life that he spent to get it.
I wondered why this was under Fiction as this is clearly a poem.
Congratulations on the 3rd place finish!

    Thanks for your review. I don't know how it got under fiction. It was a contest entry so I assumed it would be in the right category.

    I know. It happens that way sometimes. By the time we notice it, it's not in our power to change the category.

This is so creative and a unique approach to an epitaph! I love that you used a real historical event and used a golden colored picture to represent the death of a gold miner. Good luck in the contest

Miner - niner - yell - fell -smile -pile nice rhyming "Here lieth, the forty niner,
A life long miner.
Found gold with a yell,
Heart stopped and he fell.
Dying with a smile,
