Beautiful, but sad. Your poem resonates with me because my childhood was similar. Could not bring myself to write a poem. No gun, but several younger siblings to protect. It leaves hurt and scars, but God has been my loving Father and helped me through. Blessings to you.

This is a moving poem. I like the way you simply stated the facts of your sad life, and still they pull at the heart-strings. I'm happy that you managed to get past it in your adult life and are doing well.

Bless you that you made it to adulthood with your head screwed on straight. God must have made you strong to endure what you did. God bless you and take care of your children if you have any. Your poem made me feel very lucky because I had a Mom and step Dad who loved me very much.

Thank you. I did have four kids (they are grown now) and they were shown a much different childhood by my husband and I.

Your children are fortunate. Many children that come from an unhappy environment repeat what they had suffered. I think of Dahmer when I see movies or read books about mentally ill abusers.
