Hello Melissa
What a very competent piece this is. You have used the form well: making one whole, one complete image from your observations. "Vague lullabies/Unuttered Song" these are great turns of phrase and help the flow from one verse to the next run effortlessly.
I am hoping that the rating will help preserve your spot in January's features and figure. This is very Melissa - a good representation of what you do well.
Cheers

Hello Phill. Thank you for your wonderful comments... I always take them to heart. The Minute form is special to me because it was the first form I used to write in Iambic meter.. about 3 years ago. My first poem.. ever.. was written here on FS. About 8 months in to FS, I saw a Minute contest and researched Iambic meter. I tied for first place with Michael Cahill... this form as been very special since that day... my first, real confidence booster :) haha. I so appreciate your encouragement, Phill.

I adore this poem! It is so beautiful and dreamy and well-constructed and rich in imagery and perhaps one of the best minute poems I've ever read. I especially loved: "Unuttered songs lulled me to sleep/calm, drifting sweep/a quiet rest/within my nest." Can't get much better. Congratulations on placing in this contest. I'm glad you did. MM

Adonna, you made my day with your delightful review and mounds of encouragement. So needed your sunny face today... and your lovely words too. But, I really must share that is was after reading your entry for this Minute that I smiled and said to myself... how lovely, let me try something too... honestly, I said that!! Your verse is perfect and flows with that gentle iambic lilt that you do so well. Congrats to you too, my friend!!

Hi Melissa,
Very nice Minute poem, and a fine entry for the contest! I wish you Good Luck!
The artwork you chose is fabulous as well, and compliments your work very well.
"I heard the silence of the moon
convey a tune" ... an interesting line, that you could hear "silence".
I especially liked how you called the moon "old troubadour", a minstrel.
Again, how could this be? "Unuttered songs lulled me to sleep" ... Can a song be a song if it's not uttered? Maybe it's just the presence of the full moon that seems to sing a lullaby. Maybe there is an audible sound in silence. After all, Simon & Garfunkel thought so.
Nicely penned!
Good Luck in the contest!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Ah this is absolutely a perfect minute poem, Melissa. Your iambic metre is spot on, as is you rhyme in the tradition of the classic minute poem.
Wishing you great luck with the committee with serene gem. :)

Hello Gloria. I appreciate your words... I remember writing my first Minute Poem, it was for a contest. It was my first attempt at iambic meter. Michael Cahill and I tied for first place... I have been hooked on Minutes every since and use them to unstick myself from malaise... Thanks so much.

Comment from Warren Rodgers
You've written a beautiful minute poem, exceptional in every way, and easily a six star piece. It conveys to me the power music has in our lives, mysteries of the Moon, and quiet contentment that bring peace and quiet as we drift off to sleep. I've read and written a few Minute poems myself and most of them, including my own have a choppy read, but yours I find to be very smooth. Good luck in the contest, should do very well.
All the best, Rodger
