This is very entertaining... I love Miss Elvira Flunkenduncer's name. The dialogue was well handled to impart authenticity to the situation. Poor old fruitcakes often get bad press - many cooks will relate to this (I do! my fruitcakes make great door-stops.)

This is a very clever bit of writing and you chose a good picture to go with your writing. i was thinking she baked something in those cakes to make them heavy.

Fruitcakes are always the butt of holiday jokes, and they are usually very heavy. I have one on hand I may or may not serve for New Year's, Your characters of John and Shorty are great, and I remember your Elvira Flunkenduncer. What a name! Love it. Making the horse thieves eat the fruitcake might be a deterrent. The mayor seems glad to pass along the fruitcakes. It's fun to think of the fruitcakes painted and used as bookends. Excellent script. judi

CC,
hahahahaha And thus begins the fruitcake saga of the West. hahaha I wonder how the fruitcake began? That would be an interesting story to tell, huh?
I really enjoyed this. I always enjoy your scripts featuring these characters. Thanks!

What a very funny script adventure you've written here Chrystie, our heroes have returned with gusto, and decide that they will clobber horse thieves with them, because John can't even make a dent in them with his knife, or the could disguise them as bookends. Love Elvira Flunkenduncer, well done, great script writing, blessings Roy

LOL! That's so cute. I was worried when John and Shorty got the gift of fruitcakes from Elvira. I was thinking the same thing about clobbering thieves with them but bookends sound much less violent. Enjoyed your fun script!!

John and Shorty are funny characters, and mischievous as well. Poor Major Perkins, seems he doesn't know what his friends are good at.
Elvira's role or character is not described in the play. Wonder what she did to deserve such mockery of her gift. I supposed if it was someone they loved, they story would have been different whatever the condition of the gift, right?
Very interesting play

Thank you for reviewing! In the author notes, I point out that there is another script where Elvira comes up as a prominent character.

Ha, Ha, Ha who makes a killer fruit-cake and gifted to other people to enjoy? It's that a revenge hidden somewhere inside the cake: ") I think these things are purty near petrified. Maybe we should try cuttin' 'em with a butcher knife? (Pulls butcher knife from sheath. Tries to cut fruitcake with sound effect of loud HANDSAW sawing sound.) Boy, Shorty, that didn't even make a dent! (Replaces knife in sheath and replaces it on table.)
" Thank you for sharing and good luck with the next scene.

This is very cute. I once baked a cake using the wrong type of flour, and it wound up so heavy that, if I dropped it, it would probably have gone through the floor and, perhaps, killed someone three floors below, so I can commiserate.
Your characters are engaging, your plot is humorous, and the name, Elvira Flunkenduncer, definitely made me smile. Nicely done.
