You may want to work on that last line there. You can either have the story in first person or in third person. You sort of shattered the fourth wall on me there.

A tale filled with intrigue and adventure leaving the reader with lots to ponder - A suitable one for teens as per the competition prompt - good description of the forest -excellent dialogue & it really carries the story

Excellent! I'm 50 years past teenage and I was captivated! Kudos for managing to broaden the appeal. I just saw a reenactment three days ago--a guy in Civil War Era wanted to avoid having to fight for "his" side rubbed himself with poison ivy to simulate small pox! (It worked.)

This is an appropriate story for teens. It has just the right amount of suspense, and two believable characters. Since they are just friends, the issue of a sex scene can be avoided.

When I was teaching in the 1970s and early eighties this idea of of easy reading with more mature content first started in Britain. This fits the bill. The vocabulary is simple without being 'childish and the interest level should grab the age group for which it is intended. It is an interesting tale and I hope it does well in the contest.
This is a genre that should have commercial promis as I am sure there is still a shortage of suitable material.
