Nicely done free verse. I liked how you started and ended with the same word, "Once." And you have broken up the lines so naturally, just like I would read it and for the emphasis of those shorter lines. It gives me this wistful, yearning feeling. Best wishes in the contest!

Wow, so many can relate to your poem, including me. Here to day, gone tomorrow. Just how everything works out sometimes. But, we must never forget, "Where there is hope, there is a way." Tomorrow is truly a new day!
Thanks for sharing. I wish I had a six!

Yes an interesting angle here on what we consider 'precious' in our lives and a sentiment expressed by the poet that leads the reader to reflect on what really matters

Hello, Jenin,
A poignant poem about melancholic thoughts of what was hers and now is gone...I can relate. A great entry for the Free Verse Poetry Contest.

Hello jenintorre
Your free verse poems sounds that you were feeling sad of things you used to have were precious things, you did find happiness when you looked out a window.

If one's definition of free verse is only concerned with rhyme and metre then then this is undoubtedly just that. There are those however that say it goes further than that, and free verse dispenses with any form, such as bracketing with the same word at the beginning and the end as this does. It all depends how you interpret that word, free. Generally speaking on this site the freedom is only concerned with rhyme, metre and syllable count.

You have baffled me with science here. I thought that I had followd the instructions but maybe not.
-
Baffling was not my intention. I think you have followed the instructions as most definitions cover only rhyming and rhythm.

Thank you. Jen

Sometimes we don't appreciate what we have until suddenly we are without them. During this time of pandemic, most of us have come to appreciate and value our families.

One cannot perceive how you do not have them now - but my Irish intuition says you lost your soul-mate. You paint a bleakness into fine writing and touch the heart deeply. I love your artwork...it reminds me of a picture my Grandma had of a village she lived just outside of...
Drew me in and enchanted me - lovely writing

This is a really beautiful write. Some of that beauty lies in the saddness and aloneness that comes through in your words. Very nice presentation including your picture.
