I think you have captured the meaning. In Genesis when God created man, it said He breathed into them and man became a living soul. It is the breath of God within us.

A beautiful offering for the contest... :) I would suggest that you contact Tom and have him 'flip' the switch for your posting from prose to poem as it is posted as a 'general fiction' story at the moment... ;) Perhaps it would then be a bit easier to adjust the formatting to be more conducive to your presented free verse.. ;) :) Thanx for sharing and best of luck! ;)

You have used imaginative imagery in your description of your concept of the Soul. For me, seeing the soul as the embodiment of the Divine within our corporeal bodies, capable of transcending to higher realms is a valid and believable description.
