Now THIS I know a little something about! I'm down to posting about once a month these days. The muse is in semi-retirement, I think! Thankfully I have all this great poetry to review and keep myself immersed in the art of fine writing, as my attempts grow meeker and weaker by the day!

It's like what you want to right is there on the tip of your tongue but you just can't put it into words just yet. It will drive you crazy until you figure it out. Been there and done that. Good luck with the contest!

A very well-written 5-7-5 poem about writer's block that strikes us blank when we really need to write something good and special no matter how hard we try there is nothing coming through.

Hi Mystery Author,
This is a dynamite 5-7-5 to describe writer's block. So many things I liked about it...
that your would-be poems are "elusive"
that they "drown" in a "stream" of "consciousness"
and that your muse is "cruel"
it "mocks" you
This definitely worthy of a vote. Personification Plus!
I find it's impossible to write a good poem without a good night's sleep. Also, there are other stupid little things that affect my pointed head. My desk has to be neat and tidy. I've got to have my daily chores done... dishes cleaned up, counter and table wiped down, rug vacuumed, cat litter removed, garbage taken out, etc. Sometimes, I even have to have bigger chores completed. For example, I changed the oil on my snow blower the other day. Maybe I have OCD, Obsessive-compulsive disorder. No, that can't be, because I'm also a procrastinator! (You might question my "chores", but I help out because my wife's health is poor.)
Anyway, bottom line, to be able to write, I have to be in the right place... mentally.
Writing a superb 5-7-5 as you have done, it's plain to see you don't have writer's block. You're lucky.
Good Luck in the contest!
Cheers,
Kimbob

In the words of Mark Twain, rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. Hehe. I'm glad to read one of your works again. Well done 5-7-5. Topic compliant. I always hate a cruel muse. No edits or adjustments needed.

Always write it down! This is my motto as our thoughts are elusive and the magic flies away if we don't harness it. Your words here say it all, love Dolly x

This 5-7-5, Elusive Poems, has the proper formatting and sees the poem as a island in the stream of consciousness. It is actually everything just under the surface of both the water and the soil.

The elements, from color to language to word configuration, work so well. You tell a fully realized story with spare words in a fresh and active way that engages the reader's imagination. Blocked indeed. I feel it.

Yes, the muse mocks us often. But there is hope that this muse will be asleep more times than not (-; You selected an excellent image to complement your 5-7-5 lines.
