I feel like this is probably the most clear picture that's been painted of schizophrenia and what it is like for the person suffering. Excellent job in portraying that so that the reader can understand the suffering, pain and heartache they face.

Voices inside one's head is very trying for the person involved. They often listen to these voices and do what the voices tell them. I feel the devil is working overtime when this happens.

When my son first got sick, the voices were telling him to hurt his family and we were so terrified that we hid all our knives. I thank God that with the medication he is now a gentle loving soul, but still tortured by the voices. Its been a journey.

Any kind of knife(ves) is a weapon that perhaps should be hidden. They can't help it because of their thinking; but it is better to be safe than sorry!

Your poem brought out the pain of mental illness. I can't imagine what it's like. Unfortunately people with mental illness sometimes never get the help they need. Hopefully reading your poem may help someone seek the help they need.

I hope so. Many people are frightened when they see someone talking to themselves or acting oddly. I felt the same until my son got ill....now I understand. Thanks for reading my poem.

Excellent poem for mental health. There are so many people affected in so many different ways. Well put together. Photo really depicts the turmoil that goes on inside.

This is very powerful. You brought out well the tortured life and inner demons of a person afflicted with a mental illness. From the symptoms is sounds like schizophrenia. I have friends who have it, and it's terrible; but some friend control it really well with medications and have normal happy lives.

I appreciate you writing this - your poetic talent is apparent, you have an ability to really touch a reader, and the poem stays with him.

I wish you luck in the contest.

Thank you for reading. It is schizophrenia and lately his meds haven't been working right. He has very bad days where he goes into almost a trance...time for new meds I guess. It's difficult. Thanks again.

This is a well rhymed poem filled with the chaos of mental illness and how it can steal a life and tear up all good opportunities and life is on hold. The first line of the fifth stanza does not rhyme, perhaps: "Schizophrenia holds the fear" might work better. Anyway you won my vote, love Dolly x

This is really personal. But it is also very sad. Schizophrenia is not the illness that I suffer from and this gives me a glimpse into this macabre place. This sounds as if this it written about someone that you love, which you long to help but just have to sit by and watch him in pain. I say that because it in the third person. But I could also see this being about you as an out of body experience looking back in at yourself. I really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for reading my poem. It's my son who suffers from it, but we are all affected by it as a family who loves and worries about him. Thanks again for the review.

Powerful piece of writing. Heartbreaking that the human spirit can be squelched by mental illness. There's so much work to be done in our world to help those who suffer. I love your perspective and courage on the subject.
