Yes, that fact was unknown to me too. Having just read the novel, The Red Lotus, I wanted to learn more about its habitat and meaning. Different colors have other nuances, especially in Eastern philosophy.

Ciao mystery poet.. you have your first vote!
I confess I had no idea that every night the lotus submerged only to resurface so majestically the next day ..
I know in eastern philosophies it represents purity and rebirth ...which makes sense even more to me... now I know its daily cycle.
My mamma practised yoga since she was a teen ( years before it became a western thing) and I know the lotus position ..
... a pose taken when meditating and the yogi is cross-legged and each foot is place on the opposite thigh
There is a lot of health benefits also in the lotus position
It opens hips , stretches ankles and knees gives you good posture just to name a few.
I enjoyed the read and I learnt something of interesting ..

Ciao Tempeste!
It oft seems you award me votes for my poetic efforts. But, I really cherish your reviews and commentary.
Sorry, but my body could never do that lotus position (-;

You followed the rules and penned an excellent entry for the five/seven/five contest. I did not know lotus flowers disappeared at night. Your illustration pairs perfectly.

Judy,
Yes, I did not know that either. I just read a novel that had Red Lotus in its title, so I discovered that fact and the meanings of other lotus colors - fascinating!
BTW ... thanks for your review and stars (-:

How clever nature is and these are special blooms and the stagnant pond never bothered a lotus flower, they bring life to what otherwise would be a dull view, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Dolly,
The idea for the lotus cane from a novel with Ted Lotus on its title. As such I was curious about the flower and discovered this unusual factoid about their rebirth each day. THANKS for your review and stars.
