Is your story based in a prison? At least that is what my feeling was in the last paragraph. I like the idea that you were having a tasty dinner before you became the 'dead man walking'. Glad it is fictional though!

Thanks for your review. Yes, the story is based in a prison. Even a condemned man is entitled to a favourite last meal.

This is a sad and haunting story. You chose a good picture to go with your story. Well written and well developed to surprise the reader in the end. Best to you in the contest

Very well done poem about a man's last meal before execution.
It is such a tough situation to write about well. I think you have done a good job in presenting someone who has made his peace with this life it would seem. It is a strong, surprise ending. Good luck in the contest.

Hello,
What a well written story, but very sad, for this was the last meal (Meal of elegance) of this person. It was a meal of elegance with many foods I like. The artwork of the meal is so lovely with the table setting and it's fitting for your poem. I love how you shared the November Midnight moon would be your LAST company for dinner (Nice and sad). I love your title of your poem, "Goodnight Mood." Well done. The prisoner shares the last day and/or night before he becomes dead man walking, Nicely written. Sorry, out of 6 stars.

A chilling tale. It really is surprising that he condemned man should have an appetite for his last meal - traditionally anything he wants. I wonder if that is really true. Are there any capital crimes left for me to be able to complete my research?

Thanks for your review. I like to think it still happens, even in this day and age.

I really enjoyed this story of a condemned man's last meal. You set the scene well, describing the streaming moonlight in his room. We are not immediately aware where he is, but enjoy his meal with him. Your last paragraph breaks the spell, and brings us into the reality of his situation. A terrific last line. Very well done in only 250 words.i. Rod

Good work on descriptions and using the moon as a calming beginning and giving the reader a person at peace.
Then to find out it was his last meal as a condemned man.
Good work in making it in the first person as it adds
to the drama.

Mary

This is a great piece, and an outstanding contest entry. My mouth was watering as I read the description of the meal. I thought the diner was alone due to the pandemic. What a surprise ending!
