How awful! People who leave pets to die and it happens all the time, should be drug behind a car. Sorry, that's not nice but that would even be too good for them. If I had my way, many people would be drug behind cars. Anyway, exciting story, hope you do well in the contest.

Thank you for the wonderful review and insightful comments. Personally I think a nation that puts up with abortion will definitely put up with this kind of thing. Cruelty to any living thing to me is just unacceptable. Evil people seem to know no bounds.

Hello Sally, what a horrible story - well told. Whyever would anyone do that to a poor animal - and stuff rags under the door where the poor animal was confined? Very well done Sally and good luck in the contest. Love Dorothy xxx

Maybe I'll write about all my horrors in real estate and I'll have a complete horror book. Being in real estate was an eye-opener. I think I've seen it all in there. I've seen some good things too, and I've met some really nice people... I'm glad to say. This was a sad one as the dog had no chance to live, abandoned in that hot house. I did my best to file a complaint against the Realtor.

Thank you for the wonderful review and insightful comments, too. As always, I appreciate you!

Oh, that must have been disgusting, infuriating, and scary. People in your position might expect to encounter dust, clutter, and a musty odor--but not what was in that house. Well-written and descriptive

Wow, this must have been a horrifying thing to come across. How could the old owners be so cruel to leave their loyal pet like this? Although I am glad that it wasn't anything more sinister. You built the tension really well in this piece and I was gripped to see what the outcome was going to be. A really well written piece. Good luck in the contest!

Good to see you! Thanks for the excellent review and insightful comments. It is greatly appreciated. Yes, it was horrible. The dog was large and the house had no a/c. I really thought it was a dead body of a human. I could've dealt with the dog. The rags under the door were ghastly! Sending you my best today as always,

This story is a weird one that at least doesn't involved a human being's corpse. What kind of person leaves a dog to die though? Florida, there's the answer.

Animal cruelty seems to be a problem everywhere not just in Florida. Extreme temperatures add to the problem of neglect and abuse. If the other realtor had done her job, this wouldn't have happened. It's the listing realtor's job to make sure the house is ready to be listed and check it thoroughly inside and out. She didn't do it. I did report her and file a charge against her. I'm not sure where it went I just put in the hands of her real estate broker. That's how it's handled legally in the state where I live. This was in 2003. I don't practice real estate anymore because I am now blind. I'm glad you weighed in for my true story flash. I really appreciate the review, Bill.

You can never be to sure. We had a realistically lady here murdered two years ago by some nut who went around killing women he never liked. I think they killed him at the prison.

Thank you for the wonderful review and generous stars, dear Ben. The dog was a large one, I found out, and I suspected as much from the smell because it smelled like a dead human. I could write a whole volume of books on my years as a realtor. Maybe I should. All I would have to do is change the names of the guilty....

What I love about you mysteries, is you never use ugly language or place nasty thoughts in the mind of readers but keep us in suspense wanting more. You are an expert on cliff hangers and I speak for others as well.

Yikes!! I don't think such a place would even be listed these days. So awful that the owner left the house like that. Great way to tell the story like a horror flash. Best wishes in the contest!

This is a side of me that most FanStory friends don't know about. My husband and I were also property flippers and flipped a few houses together. After the mortgage crisis of 2008, we bought a company and have owned it together since. I have volumes of stories from those days I could make into a book if I wanted to. Maybe I will. This is probably the saddest one of the bunch because of the dog. How people live and how they treat their animals, themselves, family members, and the environment, was a real eye-opener for me. I learned so much during those years about the human condition and about people's need for Christ. I got to share the gospel with many. That is the good that comes out of all of this. Thank you again for the supportive review and generous compliments. It is greatly appreciated.

How sad. What a gross tale. And what an awful experience for you. I find that animal lovers can sometimes be really awful in their attitude to disabled folks. But these people did not love their animal either. No spags.

Thank you for the excellent review and insightful comments, dear Geoff. Evil resides in the heart of lost mankind. It is only in God's love that we can love others, and the animals, too. Everything about this house was neglected, including the dog. This didn't have to be this way because the realtor could've easily checked the house like she should have and released the dog and found him a home. This was just such a sad end for this dog. A graphic tale for my flash, but perhaps a wake up call for some. Sending you my best today as always,

What a gripping true story! You did exactly right giving the realtor a good ear full, and reporting her. Pet owners should have more love than to leave the animal behind.
