Heartbreaking. This is a very nice poem to advocate for pets and the value of their companionship. I think it is a well composed poem for the contest. Best of luck to you in the contest.

Lee, this is a beautiful poem, and expresses in eloquent fashion what all homeless people feel who own pets, dogs especially. Dogs first. (They are no different from those of us with homes who treat our dogs like gold).
This is a beautiful poem and photo of people who have one small beam of happiness.

Yes , there are poor people that are willing to share what little they have .. even to buy dog food for a stray..
What a loving gesture.. you can see from the pic that it brings her much joy ..

Your poem is a beautiful example of someone that despite being poor has a big heart and helped a being in need.

This put a smile on my face. I'm not sure that it should as I think more about this. It shows me someone that has nothing but uses what little they have for the dog they love. Wonderful poem. Amazing how you share such a detailed story with a poem of five lines. Fantastic.
