I adore this poem. I like the use of alliteration and even rhyme. It follows the required 3-6-9 structure in all three stanzas. Why did this not win first place, only third place? Goodness knows!

Yes, sitting in nature, especially under a tree, can make you remember the past. This shows us that everything on Earth is ineterwined. I like the use of alliteration for the first words of each stanza.
Congratulations on placing third in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi Melissa,
I like your entry for the 3-6-9 contest. All those words that begin with a "w" in every single line are quite effective. You inspire me to suggest one teeny tiny,
"Wistfulness
will tug our hearts away
with thoughts of a gentle yesterday." ...( I suggest,
Wistfulness
wiggles our hearts away
with thoughts of a gentle yesterday.)
You've chosen beautiful artwork for your poem. I think this is a poem that's relaxing to read. If I was tired, I'd surely nod off to sleep.
Good Luck in the contest! Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Lovely and elegant--delightful alliteration in W--flows gracefully in fine rhyme--masterfully structured--clever presentation with single-word openers--good luck!
Congrats on your prize--not surprised in the least! Cheers. LIZ

Melissa,
Each segment could easily stand on its own as a 3-6-9 poem. But in triplicate, you linked them together in such nice way! And all those w-letter alliterations and subtle rhymes add to your overall presentation for this contest entry.
When I was a preteen, I would often climb (but not recline!) into my front yard's willow tree and read books on quiet summer days. The slight breeze was better than my non-AC home. LOL

Awww. Thank you Mark for this wonderful review... and I really enjoyed the mental image of you sitting in a willow with that soft breeze blowing by... nothing quite like it... my tree was a very large mimosa with a crook just for me :)

Your poem brought back a pleasant childhood memory. I use to sit under the shade of the old willow tree and write my one page stories. Your poem is beautiful, well-written, great word choice, description. Good luck with your contest.

Dear Melissa
How marvelous that you've incorporated meter, internal and end rhymes together with alliteration in this write. I feel like I'm rocking in a hammock under the rustling shade of
the feathery willow leaves, drowsily watching the river flow by while nostalgic dreams fill my head.
Ah the bitter sweet memories of past loves.
Best of luck in the contest.
Stay safe and blessed

LOL in Brazil there's a word for that wistful longing for an idealized past, " saudades".

A very well-written 3-6-9 poem about the wistful willows that always remind us of good times we had when were young and able to sit beneath the tree watching the water flowing by.
