Oh my goodness, Melissa, this so rocks, my lady! You have certainly captured that 'Poe Persona' with your meter here... almost like I should have some crows crying in the background or even a low-droning organ! ;) :) Beautifully written such that those drifting feathers follow in the mind after the reading is finished... love it! ;) :) Thanx for sharing, my lady, and I fully expect to see this one on the marquee sign on the homepage!! ;) Best of luck! ;) Yvette

Hi Yvette. Thank you. I was inspired by the Nod to Poe contest last week and reread The Raven... well, that trochaic meter got stuck in my head and I had to .. follow the beat..LOL. It was really quite a challenge with meter, line lengths, rhymes... whew, will not do that again soon. ;). I so appreciate you Yvette!!

Hello Melissa,
What a wonderful raven, with a Scottish brogue no less; it must have nested in the Scottish Woods at some point.
Your Poe meter and rhyme is spot on, not an easy thing to do with the trochaic octameter.
But it is the mystic "feel" of approaching insanity that makes this poem a gripping entry for the Halloween Contest.
Now just add about seventeen more stanzas and the raven will be tapping on your chamber door.
This should do well in the contest, may even win!
Best wishes.
Six ravens.

Hi Robert... yeaaaah, I am so glad you liked it and caught the flavor of this piece. After the Nod to Poe contest last week, I reread The Raven and that trochaic meter just got stuck in my head. :). Just had to do something with it. This one took me several days to get it right. I will perch your six ravens on my bust of Pallas. LOL. Thanks so very much, my friend.

A very well-written Halloween poem with good rhyming and mysterious events that are going well with the spooky theme of a Halloween night .

Thank you Roxanna. It did take a lot of work to get it right, but it was fun to try to follow The Raven?s beat and line length... that second line was a doozy. :). Thanks again!

I recognized Poe's cadence in your poem right away! What a great idea to use that Ravenesque style poem for your Halloween entry. I hope that you do well in the contest!

Thanks so much Helen. I got the idea after I noticed the Nod to Poe contest last week. I reread The Raven and that trochaic rhythm got stuck in my head. :). Just wanted to see if I could do it and then went out and found a contest. Haha.

Your poem is excellent in every respect. First of all, it is really rendered in Poe style in rhyme, meter, setting, tone, etc. It is definitely spooky and vividly descriptive.

Hi Julia. Thank you. This was a very challenging write because of it being in trochaic meter and all of the rhyme placements... but fun too. It took me several days to get it right. I really appreciate your comments!!

Hello Melissa.
This is a cool take on the Poe style of writing. Your rhythmic treatment of the verses are reminiscent of Poe. Your language describing the "crazy bird" fits like a puzzle.
Good luck in the contest.

This is a really good tribute to Poe. If he's listening in, I'm sure he's proud.
You did a nice job mimicking him. I started reading your poem before I read your notes and i said to myself: "Self, this sounds a lot like the Raven." :)
There is some very nice imagery.
Well done.
