I'm loving this story, Mike, I love the way Billie's faith has kept her going all those years. The way the Bible is her world. I love the story you have weaved from this old house. Another lovely chapter, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

In Tennessee, we cherish these old places, and I love to photograph them. Thank you for your kind words!

"Do you know the Lord, mister, because you might be meeting Him soon? What are you doing on my land?" (What a great western line!!!)

'We were married after our second date.' (My mom and dad did too. Wow!)

Reminiscing with those that lived in 'the old days' is great! Enjoyed!!

Beautiful story of a chance encounter and a view into another world lost long ago. I can only imagine the peace she feels living off-grid out in the country without the chatter and stress of every day life in 2020. I loved reminiscing about 1990 through your story and how much the world has changed since then. The stories of both marriages almost brought a tear to my eye. I'd love to read more, it sounds like she could use some companionship from time to time. Well done!

Mike,

When I was installing phones I actually met a woman much like Miss Billie. This seventy-yo woman lived alone in a house with no indoor plumbing WHATSOEVER and no electricity. It boggled my mind.

Choosing to ignore the world when you've found your happy place must be wonderful. Thanks!

This is inspiring and very well written. Your illustration pairs perfectly. I would give you six stars but I don't have a sixer left. They just don't give us enough for all the wonderful writers on this site.

Well done and very enjoyable. I like your descriptions and dialog. I felt like I was sitting right next to you. Nothing stood out that I though needed changing. Well done. Thanks for sharing your story. Stay well.

The best part of this story is that a grown man takes the time to befriend an older woman who is a recluse. This is a lovely story wih a beautiful landscape in the picture.

This is a lovely story, lovingly told by someone with the skills to give Miss Billie justice. Thank you for sharing it, Mike.

I found very little to quibble about. I'm a quibbler, so that says a lot about the quality of your writing.

The few things I found could easily have gone without mention, but I'm bringing it to your attention to see how anal you are about making corrections.

Again, a beautiful job.

but all I see is two barrels [all I see ARE two barrels.]

Looking back on 2020 so far, I wonder how Miss Billie will see our world? [Is it you looking back on 2020, or Miss Billie. It's not clear.]

Wal-Mart only sells fifty-pound sacks at Sams Club for restaurants. [Is it necessary to include the Walmart to Sam's club part when the only important part is why he's not getting her a 50 lb bag? It kind of slowed me down, and it's better if you don't do that.]
