Hi Melissa, so very true. The written word, whether prose or poem, can be used with a brutal force. Just as you say in your wonderful twenty words' poem. It has proved to be so during the centuries. Good luck. Ulla:)))

So true. The way you word a poem could have different emotional effects, meanings, take the reader on different journeys, resonate with something going on in their lives. Nicely put.

Melissa,

This is another well-written poem for this contest. I think your indentation is perfectly matched for your 20 words of text. It gives a special flow to your concept of the art of poetry. Do like the balance among moving thing, brute force, and delicate wing. Good use of your lone capitalization and punctuation too.

A very well-written twenty-word poem about the art of poetry with words to bring a visual picture to the reader with a strike of brute force or the brush of a delicate wing.

The contrasts within poetry are described here most succinctly and also poetically both because of the end rhyme and the effective imagery conjured up by the word choice. This should catch the judges eye.

This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a very poetic offering, especially the closing line Sugarray !

... depending the message it wants to convey a poem has the power to deal out a punch or cradle us sweetly .. make us shed a tear or make us laugh.

I love the photo you found to complement your words.

Keep safe!

Hello Melissa
Another really good piece. Very well thought out: saying what you wish to say, without jarring, and staying within the limitations of the 'form' (or, in this case, the restriction) and yet *still* managing to get some rhythm and rhyme in there.
Well done
Cheers Melissa - I hope you have a brilliant weekend

Hello Phill. Thank you so very much. This is a funny one. I was reviewing last week and used most of that in a comment for Debbie Pope... she said that I must use it in a verse.... so I did. :). I always appreciate your thoughts!!

So true! Depending on how the words in a poem strike us - it can be powerful and direct or "brush with a delicate wing." (love that!) And both are results of great poetry. Best wishes in the contest!
