I really do love this poem-writing-whatever you choose to call it. The descriptions are wonderful. I like them all, but your description of your mother scattering words from upside down pockets really takes the cake. You emphasize the confusion that exists in all of us (I guess) . We have to live life, look at it, and then put it all together if we can.

free verse my dear - gives you a lot of liberty! And thank you for picking out the description I liked best! Bless you for your lovely review and thoughtful reading - so much appreciated. But then, with a pen name like yours ... :)))Sharyn

The pen name comes from an incident where a friend I hadn't seen for a long time met me and showed amazement on her face. She said she thought I was dead! Turns out her husband had seen a message at the gym I used to go to that said the pool was closed so everyone could go to "Carol's" funeral. Different Carol, of course!

I like the way you divided your life into three sections. It's like a play in three acts. Act III is most interesting, since it is in the present. Yes, they are all puzzling pieces, do all the pieces fit?

You're right about our ephemeral natures. Which poems have you read by Billie Collins?

Cheers,
DW

I have several volumes DW - "Picnic, Lightning", "horoscopes for the dead" and "The Trouble With Poetry". I'm fascinated by the warmth and humanity that shines through his work. This morning I just read a poem entitled "Aristotle" - I think it's the last piece in "horoscopes for the dead" - and BC used the beginning, middle & end concept both for his life and for the "shape" of the works in his book. I'm intrigued by his simple, conversational style and every so often he just pulls a beautiful image and throws it casually out there for us to catch and sit with ... love the way he "sees" the extraordinary in the ordinary! :)S

Thanks. I have "The Trouble With Poetry" and "Sailing Alone Around the Room." I saw that Aristotle is in there so I'm going to read that today. I'm also a fan of his poetry.

    Cheers, DW

yes my friend that is on the agenda and will be awesome when it is done. Between the corruption in the Philipines and the sloth like moving of this government here I am being driven to madness. But as Delia and I have always said to each other "be strong!" Fingers crossed Sharyn.
