This poem resonates with me because I had a similar experience. Even though he's out of my life for good and the 'box' has been burned, it affects me to this day. Let that butterfly go free and forget about the crow.

Thank you for resonating with this one Cindy. And I'm glad he's out of your life for good! In retrospect, the experience is not necessarily a negative in the long run, because it forced me to look at how I tied my self worth to another. When you get to that decision time in life, it actually strengthens you for whatever the future holds I think. (But you're right - the memory stays, and is easily rekindled). Thank you so much for keying into this one! Best wishes, Sharyn

Hullo Visionary ...
Clearly, there is a story behind the story that you relate in this relatively short work which ends with an emphatic word of warning.
There is nothing to suggest changing. I believe you will give many of your readers something to think about through your well-chosen words in this posting.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
Love from ... Nanette Mary.

Yes, there is indeed a story behind this story Nanette Mary - thank you so much for reading and understanding my work.

I like your free verse style and all the information and emotion you pack into so few words.
You indicate knowledge that relationships are fluid, "always in a state of flux." But, to me the greatest relationships are those that can be separated for varying periods of time and take up again as though there had been no separation. The worst relationships are those in which you have to start all over every time you meet. Your friend, Bob

Thx Bob - what you're describing is actually how I feel about my lifetime friends - we can not see each other for years at a time, but when we get together again, it's as if no time has passed at all. And yes, I agree, those are the BEST, aren't they!? :) Sharyn

This is so true in human relationships, you don't always get what think you have got. In every person, there is another hiding, or trying to get free. When that happens, anything goes, to your liking, or not. xsx

Wow - this is an extremely powerful free verse, and I absolutely love it. The metaphor works wonderfully, although the last part of the poem is very threatening -(I'm not sure how much damage a butterfly could do to a bird.) :) Nonetheless, it was very evocative. Excellent. Very, very beautiful.

A cool write, I like the way she emerges as the hunter not the hunted a sad indictment on society thought that this goes on and we do have to adapt to our environment and relationships

This is a fascinating and thought provoking piece to read. It does make me ponder the change that occurs over time. Or even the change that occurs when a sudden shift from the norm takes place. Like my own which was change from disease.
Well penned Sharyn I enjoyed the read.
Thanks for sharing.

Power and control are two demons that can destroy couples. Individuality and sharing are the anti-serum that you need right now. Time in the box will certainly sharpen your agressiveness for freedom. Hopefully you'll be spreading your wings again real soon! Cleverly written with a touch of darkness...

Great story in this poem! It kind of reminded me of this season of true blood (There was a lot of don't waste your light talk!) I did not see any obvious errors!

Great relationship poem/story. I like the "boxed" in analogy with the light coming to make the person trapped feel wholeness of self to speak out.
