Yes hope without work is dead, action to correct the hopelessness is needed. I like this poem, this is very well written. It has an nice flow with a good rhyming theme. Good luck with the contest, good job with this piece.

Poet,
You certainly did a good job of rhyming this entry on hope.
You also seemed to contradict yourself in it. First hope
"does nothing and that's a pity" then in the end... when hope
is given away > it works...I don't get it?
There is a clear difference between wishful thinking and
hope...look it up. I like how you encourage readers to
get out off their (ass) (not needed in poetry) and help
someone else. Okay, that's good advice.
I found your use of "scope" in the last stanza forced.
Your entire poem is aabb rhyme and you changed it
up on your last stanza to an abab rhyme. I'm not
sure I agree with you in your last line:
"It'd be great if we all thought in this way"
No, I don't think so...

Excellent poem of hope. I especially liked the last stanza.
You will find out that you gave them some hope
That's when hope works, when you give it away
The joy of giving is without any scope
It'd be great if we all thought in this way
Well done
Blessings

This was a surprising poem with a bit of a negative slant on hope. I don't think I've seen that before! *smile* Though I do understand it's talking about hope and faith with no action behind it. Very wise. Thanks for sharing. Good luck!

You know, the problem with the Christian religion and the Bible is that they are often misquoted and misunderstood. The Bible actually says that it is better to give than to receive, you see when you give you actually receive. As you implied in your poem, the feeling you get from a selfless act like giving a needy person a meal is a gift greater than the gift the hungry person received.

Defining hope is a personal thing. For my clan hope was what made you keep scratching and clawing and trying. The artwork is derived from a photo of a dust bowl mother(Grapes Of Steinbeck) that is a classic. Excellent poem.

Hope comes from imagining a better State of Being than what we currently feel. It does work - but we have to move from our vantage point to experience the change...I appreciate the input...John

I love the message of doing something instead of just siting and waiting it to happen. You get what you give. Thank you for sharing.

Really enjoyed reading this!
There is quite a lot going on here but I relate to the main messages of 'do something' and 'don't rely on faith and hope'.
Then 'give hope away' ......the gift being the means of showing you that there are worst things going on in the world than your own problems.
Yes...we should do more and think differently, especially today with the world in such a sorry state : (
Good luck in the contest : )

Best wishes for the penning Hope contest. The Bible tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Thus, to help others is a given. So I agree with your last statement "if we all thought this way.' I don't think that having Faith makes a person unproductive. Thanks for sharing.
