Good luck with your contest entry; well presented and in three short lines you have told a story of life before birth - imagination is a wonderful part of being cocooned and wondering what life would be like outside the protection of the cocoon. Well done poet.

I really like cocoon-life. Your explanation of how we all may wish to return to those days when life was more carefree, as if living in a cocoon, protected from harsh reality, really puts this 5-7-5 into perspective. Good luck in the contest!

I really like the analogy: the heart of a child inside a cocoon which eventually turns into a beautiful butterfly in a not so beautiful world. The desire to return to the cocoon and its safety understandable. Good artwork choice. Very good 5-7-5 true to form.

this is a beautiful poem
to me this poem is about life
the beginning or rather birth
not out of cocoon
and also I know this is a 5-7-5 poem
but to me full moon
it didn't flow right in the middle of line
to me I would've liked full moon to be on a line of it's own

Your verse reflects your confrontation with the realities of life.
The cocoon protects the transformation taking place that changes lowly worm into a form that can fly.
The cocoon was temporary and not designed as a permanent abode. The worm grew from an egg to a form that enabled the insect to feed and grow and be strong enough to spin a cocoon.
The real life of the insect begins when the transformation is complete and it can fly to flowers and buds, collecting nectar for energy and pollen to fertilize the seeds of plants or flowers. It is a real purpose.
In the same way, humans have a purpose that transforms them if they will but find that purpose and fulfill it. But many choose to resist or complain.

Hi there
I love these 5/7/5 - especially without constraints. Nature is an amazing thing ... and I relate to the fact that we were cocooned in our early years as you say, from a harsh world. I live in the remote Marlborough Sounds New Zealand and it is here, as a older person, that I now cocoon myself! and write amongst nature. I appreciated this one. Marion.

This is a lovely 5-7-5 poem evoking hope and promise
of new life yet at the same time acknowledging the comfort
and security of the world we know.
It made me think of new graduates, marching up to
the podium...collecting their diplomas...dreaming of
the new life they were embarking on - unaware of the
challenges to come or the value of the cloistered world
they had experienced so far.
Poignant poem :-)
