That's quite an honor and a responsibility! A beautiful poem and sometimes simplicity speaks louder, my friend. Easier for all to comprehend! Children are such a blessing from above. Treasure that child as he was your own. Very nice.
Godly light, I would assume you mean God's light in which case that should be capitalized. In my opinion anyway but you are the writer.

It is, my friend, and I'm truly honored.
I honestly wasn't sure about 'godly', so I'm glad you mentioned it. It makes sense to capitalize it, so I'd better fix that so his minister doesn't think me a godless savage. ;)
I really appreciate that sixer, my friend.

This is a precious poem accompanied by a precious photo! *smile* What a privilege to be asked and what an honor it will be to share this lovely lyrical poem. No need to differentiate (in your notes) about metaphorical or not . . . let us enjoy all your facets!

Thank you, barleygirl. I actually don't like this kind of poetry EXCEPT when it's for an event. I've done weddings, funerals, birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries before, but never a christening. I appreciate it!

This is actually very appropriate for the child - simple, beautiful and lyrical. Anything pithier (no, I do not have a lisp) would not be appreciated by the many who will read it. It is similar to keeping the music light and not engaging a symphony for a christening. You have written well and appropriately. Beautiful, like this child.

Thank you so much, Elizabeth. Knowing me as you do, I had to really pull back the reins so it wasn't at all pithy, as it's a serious but joyful moment, and I wanted to make sure I did honor it as such. I appreciate your great review, my friend.

The story of life was just spelled out before my eyes. Thank you for sharing this very well written truth.
We hold this child = in itself a very powerful message.
Behold this child = brought the whole piece to a great end, yet left the door open for imagination. Great poem with an easy flow and an incredible message, very thought provoking.

All the more splendid, as great works are geniously simple. Children give meaning to our pathetic struggles in life and grand children are the sign God has forgave us.! Great work, you'll make a wonderfull godfather.Congrats!

What a wonderful poem and tribute to your new godson. I enjoyed the journey you told in poetic form. It's like you have the entire world in your hands. There isn't another moment that is any better.
Nicely composed. Enjoy the journey, John

So small and so innocent. It is a pity the can't stay that small for a while longer. Unfortunately they grow up too quickly. Thanks for sharing this lovely poem.

This is a beautifully written poem, as if the child was your own! As a father and latterly a grandfather, I have tasted the wonder of raising a child, giving away in marriage, and then the beauty of the next generation! The written narrative you have presented is smooth, rhythm and rhyme consistent and tight. Well done, blessings, Roy.

What a wonderful and heartwarming gift to your friend. Just the wonder of this new little life and where will it lead? And the child is cute as a puppy in a hat. Bravo Godfather, Judester
