This is an outstanding literary effort in every way. The rhymes, inner rhymes and the meter all engineered well, as your story continued, uninterrupted. Even the 'goodbye' can be good sometimes. This is neatly done, and I enjoyed it.

Your long lines of iambic meter are to perfection. Nice rhymes. I like the expression, "verbal sugar-cane". An interesting scene is presented where the two meet and hit it off but the second meeting doesn't show promise. I had to read it a few times to fully understand what was happening. An enjoyable read from a talented poet.

Have a sixer, my friend, as you seem to take them all, anyway, and deservedly so. I do like your idea of the relationship being bookends, and I guess the right one was pulled away.
