So timely and appropriate on this Earth Day. The rhyme scheme works very well, and your choice of words is just right. Love the second stanza where we "earthlings" are portrayed as problem children who place demands on Mother Earth. Very inventive and poetically creative.

Happy Earth Day, Brooke. I loved your little poem to pay tribute to Earth Day - I think earth will be all right because so many now are conscious of needing her resources and protecting them. Giddy

Already farmlands have been converted to industrial jungles;water scarcity is taking a serious turn; we ,in Chennai, are keeping our fingers crossed that this summer we our bore wells wont run dry .my only consolation is that i may not be around if and when mother earth decides to punish us for our misdeeds.lovely meaningful poem .

Here...here...Brooke! How long indeed will people be able to abuse their "mother" so long before she tires of our games. I look forward to your work because I know I will always see something thought out and well written.

Declined: An Earth Day Lament is another beautifully written poem. The prose so perfect in stating the obvious. We need to treat our planet better. It's the only one we have.

It sure is the only one, not that the majority of people act like it... Thanks so much, Steve :-) Brooke

Earth's resources are indeed something that we need to preserve. Well said. I'm not sure I understand the line "as problem children find". It doesn't go with the rest.

Opal, thank you for your feedback. I am saying people of planet Earth are Mother Earth's problem children, wasting and destroying her resources. Brooke

Excellent message for us all Brooke. This is a masterful way to draw
attention to a world wide problem. I hope people will make a change before its too late.
Great picture and very nice presentation.

You have presented a valid message in this brief rhymed verse.
Mother Earth can not tolerate her disobedient children
forever. An effectively employed analogy.

A pleasure to have read.
Rich.

It is sad that for the number of Earth Days that have come and gone, so little has changed. Now, for the strange part to this review. Your lament reminded me of a late 60s hit In the year 2525 and in particular this verse: In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Your poem is beautifully presented. I like the fairies...
