What an absolutely awful situation for any parent to find themselves in. As well as conveying extremely well the horror and despair of the situation, the poem exhibits perfect structure and form. Excellent work, and thanks for sharing. Craig

Comment from Ginda Simpson
What a sad story this is, but I like the way you reflect on it from not only the parents who suffer and mourn their loss, but from the point of view of the young man. Sensitive and lonely, what did he need so desperately that his family nor his community could not see and provide? A beautiful poem.

Thank you so much, Ginda! Your review and words are deeply appreciated. It's such a sad and dreadful situation for the parents - the not knowing would drive me mad I think. Take care Debbie x

Thank you so much for your exceptional review which is so kind and deeply appreciated! Fortunately it's not me but a friend going through all this. But trying to put myself in his position over the months has been nigh on impossible. Such a cruel punishment for anyone to suffer, not to mention the anguish and sense of hopelessness of the son, whatever his fate. Take care and thanks again, Debbie

Thank you, Debbie for this very harrowing story.
If you knew the parents, as I assume you did, this must have been a very painful process.
4-3-4-3 iambic and abab thyme scheme sustained so well for nine quatrains, with a very well chosen b/w picture, pointing up the bleakness of the story.
Emotive language ramps up during the poem, showing the increasing desperation - 'dread' 'enshrouds' nightmare' - the story is so painful, and especially since it is still unresolved.
Thank you for making us aware of this family tragedy, Debbie.
A real need for prayer.

Dear Debbie,
The flow of this tragic event is perfect. And, although so painful to read about such sadness, because of the flow I found it easy to read.
Your gift for writing is fabulous.
My heart goes out to those parents and I can only hope that their son, that they love, comes home someday.

I love the way you tell this story with words such as "They focused then on parents more and put them in the frame". Yes, that's what the police do, as they should.
This is such a tragic story - the pain of not knowing where he is - or even if he is still alive - must be killing the parents inside.
I pray this family will finally discover what happened to their son. Be it good news or bad, closure is needed. I'm sure they pray for that.
Please let us know if anything comes to light.
This "story" is so well told through your usual practiced and perfect poetry.

Thank you so much, Pam, for this exceptional review which is deeply appreciated. It's almost impossible to imagine what this must feel like for the parents and, as you suggest, the not knowing is the worst part of all. He was a very reserved young man and must have had a lot of issues that he simply couldn't share. Sometimes, people just disappear like this because they want anonymity but the father believes he may well have taken his life. Tragic. But thanks so much for your kind words. Debbie xo

Moving and brilliantly executed Debbie. The rhyme and rhythm perfect. The sad unknowable story compelling and adding such a dark level to your words. Well done. X

Thank you so much, John! I really appreciate this especially as I know metered verse isn't always your preference. You're very kind and generous here. Debbie x
