Oh, Chip! Love it, man!! :) It has the perfect blend of imagery and emotion that truly make it a wonder for only 17 syllables!! :) Perfect...think you may have a winner here!! :) ;) Thanx for sharing and best of luck in the contest! :) ;) Yvette :)

If only we could! We all have our castles in the sky, but to build one here on earth is as challenging as working with sand. We run out of time as the tide rushes in! But, we should try anyway. Lovely sentiments captured in a few short lines.

Much like a wild bronco held in captivity that absolutely refuses to be tamed or broken, you may be able to trap the sands of time for a brief moment, Chip.
But guess what?
The world ain't slowin' down and time waits for no man.

Best wishes to you in your contest.

Ah, but the moments when it SEEMS like it is are gold! Thanks for the read/review and for sharing the tune, had never heard it. I like it!

It's a track from the Jim Carey film Me, Myself & Irene, Chip.
    I really like it too.
You're more than welcome and feel free to drop by my portfolio anytime.

Yes, Dean, I've been selfish of late, writing and not reading much. I enjoy your work and will reciprocate. Coming up on a year since leaving IBM and starting to network and interview to get back to the corporate thing. Ugh. My plan to climb all 48 4,000 foot peaks in New Hampshire and blog and write a book after was derailed shortly after I left my gig by a severely herniated disc (which is still an issue, though not nearly as bad as it was). I have not been nearly as productive with my writing as I had hoped but life gets in the way. I hope to still be active here though. Take care!

If you do manage to return to climbing be careful, Chip!
A lot of climbers have been lost already this year scaling Mt. Everest.

This 5-7-5, Timeless, has the right set up and finds the endless struggle to survive the setting of the sun, the ebbing of the tide, and the passing of time. We live our lives and bemoan or enjoy it retrospectively.

Hi Chip, That's a great sandcastle! I, for one, would love to slow down the sands of time... or even turn them back. I'd like to turn them back, about 30 years or so. Back to the day that my current bf and I first met, which I don't remember, so I can do things differently.

Thanks, Susan. I hope that by 'doing things differently' you aren't referring to your decision;^)

absolutely... his life was ruination... we both ended up divorced... I expect we'd have had the happily ever after... I'm glad I don't remember it.

but sadly the sands (of time) shift dramatically, especially at your seaside scene

so castles of love may just sink away too quickly to enjoy the fruits of passion

good luck in this contest

Isn't that the truth that time flies by so fast and you look back and think where did the time go? How can I be this age? Only yesterday I was a bride, an now I'm old, Like the soap opra says "As sands slip through an hour glass, so are the days of our lives"

-Nice image and
presentation, Chip.
-The syllable count is good.
-Effective use of alliteration
and one continuous thought.
-I like the theme of slowing down
and relating it to "sands of time"
in order to build your own castle
for the one you love.
-Good luck in the contest.

A great poem. If we could control the earth and it's environment I'm sure sand castles would turn out to be much better. Best of luck in the contest with your entry.
