Excellent rictameter poem! I agree with what your poem says, the bears new home is all cement. In town where I live (very small) they go for the birdfeeders. I really like your authors notes on this as well. All in all a splendid poem. Sad, but splendid!

You are right about this unfortunate trend; for, though it has gone on for centuries, its pace has quickened with little benefit on either side.

One of the worst examples is cutting down rain forests to permit farming, as the soil has little depth of fertility and quickly becomes depleted. That plot of land is then abandoned, more forest is cleared, and the process repeats. Thus, lush oxygen-producing, carbon capturing, diverse life supporting forests become deserts useful to no one.

In all such cases, displaced animals will roam elsewhere in search of food, as you describe. God did not give humanity dominion over Earth to act so irresponsibly. The message of your poem is important and timely. Humanity need not retreat into crowded cities, but we can be wiser in our handling of what natural land remains.

One technical point in line 6 is easily fixed. Dictionaries generally show "soil" as one syllable, though it theoretically could be stretched to two (if pronounced slowly enough to rhyme with "royal"). All other words presently in that line clearly are monosyllabic. Accordingly, to have eight syllables instead of seven, just expand the contraction "won't" to "will not" to resolve the issue.

Hi Mike, so good to see you my friend...I did check a couple places for the syllable count on soil...both showed 1...thank you so much for your help...I have been reading where the bears are getting shot trying to eat out of garbage cans...that is just so sad...and still...we take their land...there will came a day...we will pay for ruining Gods land...thank you so much for a wonderful review...love Linda xxoo

You are welcome, Linda. I'm glad to help. You are right that sooner or later there are consequences to excessive and needless harm to nature.

The geo-engineering being done worldwide with chemtrails from high-flying drone aircraft may -- if not soon stopped -- release enough nano-particle aluminum, barium, mercury, strontium, and who knows what else to kill all life on Earth. The fools responsible for this ought to be tried for crimes against Life itself. -- Mike

Amen Mike...and I know about the chemtrails...my sister and I have been talking about them for years....it is a nightmare...and people better wake up...stop those fools...love xxoo

Yes, Linda, and the more people talk about it and explain it to those who had not realized the danger, the more likely it is that something will be done about it. The drought and resultant fires in California are caused by a combination of chemtrails and atmospheric heating by the HAARP installation in Alaska. Whenever clouds approach from the Pacific, drones show up to emit chemtrails, and the clouds disperse. The purpose is to reduce the supply of fruit and vegetables in this country in order to prompt public outcry for rights-reducing government assistance. -- Mike

the same with where I live...I live in the corn belt...those darn planes are flying over all the time...most know what they are trying to do...stop the corn from reproducing so the farmers have to buy more seed to grow corn...it is a nightmare what goes on in this country against the people...and there will be a time...the evil ones will have to pay...love xxoo

Sounds like evil Monsanto had a hand in what is happening near you. Did you know evil Bayer (one-time Hitler supporter) has bought Monsanto? The purpose may be that the bigger they are, the harder it is for ANY one government to restrict their nefarious activities. It is interesting that GMO crops are banned in Russia. They ban water fluoridation too, as it weakens bones and teeth and even lowers IQ. Israel bans it too. President Trump is gradually untangling some big corporate tentacles from the federal government, but it is hard because those companies control the "deep state" that is determined to thwart all he does. -- Mike

you are a wise man Mike...and you better believe Monsanto is nothing but evil...scary...what he is doing...and can do...and yes Trump is slowing untangling the garbage in the White House...and if all the paid media...could silenced...people would see want a great job he is doing...what pisses me off is the media accuses him of doing wrong...before he even gets there...his wife was in the hospital having serious surgery...and they had he getting a divorce...I told my friend he should go after the media for slander on him and his family...but he said if he did...the media would say he was trying to hind something...sickening...xxoo love

Thank you. I agree with you about the rest of your points.

However, people in public office cannot sue for slander, as one of the reasons for the First Amendment was to ALLOW criticism of the government and those in it without punishment -- unlike what happens in other countries where dissidents are tried and convicted in kangaroo courts (or just made to disappear). Thus, even the worst lies against people in the public eye are hard, if not impossible, to prosecute. Trump was right about accusations that would have been made.

For the same reason, Trump does not fire Mueller, even though he has legal power to do so. He correctly reasons that it is better to let Mueller flail around finding nothing because there is nothing to find, as that will ultimately prove Mueller's whole investigation was unjustified public expense.

The best thing that can happen now is for reasonable people to be certain to vote accordingly in November to kick as many leftists out of power as possible. A solid "red wave" is our best chance to help Trump do what is needed to further clean up our government and save our nation from the disaster that the opposite outcome would usher in. -- Mike

Yes I agree with you Linda, as we tenderise meat, I think people need to be tenderised, beaten with metaphorical mallet until we realise they have a right to a balanced planet, Man never took God seriously, when He said. "The Earth is mine and the fullness thereof." There was a song I heard years ago called "The owner of the store" by BJ Thomas, it's on YouTube you can google it put BJs name with the song title. Beautifully written rictameter, well done. Blessings, Roy

This poem is so good in so many ways. It's message, especially when you consider the author's notes is confronting. We humans certainly make life difficult for so many of the other species on earth,
I near cried at seeing the image of the poor bear.
A very good write.

I agree ... it is so hard as we displace nature. There are deer in our neighborhood ... maybe 20. They seem to like it here ... farm land and forests are several miles away ... requiring crossing quite a few roads and freeways, so they are here to stay. The hawks keep squirrel population down a bit, but there is nothing natural to chase the deer. Fortunately we don't have bear - or elephants! No moose or alligators either. Nature is nice to watch ... when it is natural.
Great poem, by the way :-)

In my opinion, a significant write about what we all should consider a critical issue. We are experiencing the effects now, and it will continue to worsen unless we recognize the problem and act to correct it - again, NOW! The rhyming rhythm presents casual and unforced - flows smoothly throughout. The presentation is flawless...

You are so welcome, my dear Lady, such an important issue that we can no longer wait to address. Your write is more than timely, Linda, and I agree with you completely and share your love for animals.. We, as humans, were given dominion over the animals, and this means their care and survival as well. It is both a privilege and a responsibility, with which you expressly agree and proclaim. It is an honor to know you...Eve

I agree, Linda, with your heart-felt concern for the wildlife threatened by man's greed. You are right--those animals are starving and need compassion from us--not hate and death by us.

Good job on the style of the rictameter.

Thanks for sharing and caring. Jan

I agree completely . Thankfully here in Minnesota we have a lot of trees and forests. Wildlife is abundant here, so much so that I see many deer in town and a few bears once in awhile on our paper route. You are right though, animals have a right to live on this earth the same as we do and we need to preserve areas for them. Thanks for sharing this.
