Hello, Bob.
I don't believe you ever completely get over the loss of a parent, a child, a beloved member of your family, and even a pet sometimes.
I recall every dog my parents had when we were growing up, and every dog I've had the pleasure of owning since.
Although I'm not so sure I own Gidget, my old grumpy Chihuahua.
My kids and family claim that Gidget owns me, and they're probably right.
Thank you for your kind condolences, Bob.
I sincerely appreciate your review.

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your father. That's another thing we have in common. My father was born in the small town of Sandy Hook, Kentucky. He too was an honorable man. He didn't drink or smoke. He was my hero.

Thanks very much, Tom.
Sandy Hook? That's where the school shooting took place awhile back, right?
I'll bet your dad was turning over in his grave when that tragedy occurred.
My dad never drank or smoked a day in his life, at least none that I ever heard of or saw.
He was very much against them both and he hated me wearing a beard.
I have a goatee and it incensed him to no end that I refused to shave it off.
"Look, son. Everyone I've ever known and worked with who had a beard was a little bit weird," he'd say. "You look like the Devil himself with that thing on your face."
Dad had his funny little quirks.
But don't we all?
Much obliged for the kind words, Tom.
Take care...
~Dean

Sorry for the delay in responding.
With my dad passing away recently I've fallen a bit behind.
It's not that I don't appreciate your input because I do.
It's just been a little crazy around here lately.
Thanks so much again.

Thanks, Teri.
I'd like to think we all go that way when the Lord comes to call us Home.
We just drop our nets, shake off this Earthly realm and go with Him. As my dad loved fishing more than just about any other extracurricular activity I can think of, I could picture him flinging his hand-held fish net into the lake the taking Jesus by the hand.
It's comforting to think of his passing that way. That's why I chose that particular verse.
God bless, and thanks again for reading.

My dad wasn't a writer, Christine, but boy, could he whittle!
That man could build anything out of wood too. He was very talented in those ways.
Thanks again.

Hi Dean, as I started reading this I thought, this is not in Dean's style. Then I found out - so sorry to hear about your Dad. You have written a beautiful poem for him and your author notes are great. For your Dad, a lovely man, I give a 6. Not the best of times for you at the moment. Keep smiling as your Dad would want you to. Best wishes Dorothy xx

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your father, Dean. I hope you and the others who loved him, and were loved by him, are doing OK.
This is a well-written and moving tribute which celebrates the special father-son bond. I'm sure he'd be -- again-- most proud.

Thanks, Craig.
My dad was my real American hero and a great role model for not only me and my two younger brothers, but everyone who knew him.
He's at peace now and I'm grateful I had a strong relationship with dad well into my adult years.
Many aren't that fortunate.
Take care, and thanks again for your kind comments & condolences.

A very well-written tribute to your father and his riches he gifted to you. The gifts he gave to you is priceless, there is not enough money on earth that can buy these precious gems.
NS: My sincere condolences on your father's passing. It is the second time today I received bad news that made me cry. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family.

Dean this is a wonderful tribute to your father. Sounds a lot like my dad.
A man who loved his family and his life.
The rhyme here was outstanding as was the meter. But the best part of this poem was the gratitude expressed by a son who had a wonderful father. And I bet was equally proud of his son.
