It was neat to read that one's voice was found after such a traumatic past. This poem speaks courage, strength, and love. I love the emphasis of choice. Well done!

Wonderful poem on equality. I never understand people's issues with equality. Why it should ever be an issue. We are all God's children. Blessings....

I'm so with you on this. I'm not sure there was ever a time I DID leave my opinion at the door. lol
Not when it comes to people hurting other people.
I think that everyone has a right to live their lives... but so many are just being disrespectful, and hurtful... and for this to happen... it's just so sad.
Your poem says it well, shows so much understanding, and the internal rhymes are awesome. Your alliteration stands out and your voice rings out loud.
Well done, Teresa!

I'm going to a gay pride event tomorrow for the first time ever. Maybe I can learn more about how to have a voice and make a stance. Thanks so much Cat.

Where would the world be if someone didn't stand for what is wrong. Everybody sees but only a few step out.

Your punctuation marks (but not no more), was good. Sometimes we say one thing and then something come to mind.

The red white and blue at the forefront,
The determination and self assurance of the people in the picture,
Accompanied by the beautiful, inspiring poem,
exude pride, determination to feel free to be an American.

Freedom of the mind, body and spirit is my personal credo, and America inspired it. I will not feel deterred by events like Orlando, but I will never ignore, or wash them over.

This poem is so profound and speaks volumes about the struggles that so many have had to endure. The verses flow with great and unforced rhyming that adds to the overall message. It's wonderful that you're now using your voice in such a wonderful and creative way. GREAT JOB !!!!

Wish I had a six left to give you for this. My heart just hurts so much right now. The shooting in Orlando, all the suicide bombings in Turkey, Bangladesh, Baghdad, and now Medina, just as Muslims worldwide are coming to the end of Ramadan. Like someone said recently, ISIS killers aren't really Muslim, they are psychopaths. Oh, the recent shootings of black Americans by the police is so upsetting - there are so many I can't keep them straight anymore. I feel so disillusioned by the world right now.
Poems like yours are a light in what feels like a dark world,
Carol

I just got back from Canada - such a nice peaceful place. You don't hear about shootings and terroristic threats. What is wrong with us in the US. Things need to change - big time! Thanks for the great review Carol:)

Power to the people. This was an angry poem about standing up to injustice and refusing to be silenced.Hopefully, when everyone is treated equally, we won't need poems like this. Til then.....

This is awesome! The first stanza is flawless and made me gasp! The second stanza explained the poem which is intense, strong with few words, which, for me, is what poetry is all about...using those words so carefully! Thanks for a wonderful piece which complements the great picture!

Very good poem about the strength of the woman once silent and still. I enjoyed the read. Good free-verse poem. God bless and hugs, Susanne
