Hello Visionary, First I'm sorry for what is to come for you and your mother but, happy that your mom has such a strong woman at her back. This piece is poetically one of the best pieces I have read in a long time. Excellent work and vision. xoxo Kiwi

Thx so much kiwi! good news is that it was a misdiagnosis, would you believe? My mother has always been a little strange, but she had a huge blood loss from a nose bleed that became a haemorrhage, and completely lost it for 24 hours ... but then - wait for it - when she woke up, she was LUCID. What are the chances??? So thank you for all your good wishes! and for your fine review - I was pleased with this one! Best wishes, Sharyn

I am sorry to read your mother has been today diagnosed with dementia.
Your poem is brilliantly written with its graphic imagery very effectively expressing the feelings one might feel towards "the creature" that no longer resembles the person you loved.
Great alliteration and nice use of occasional rhyme.

This is so sad. I am so sorry about your beloved mother. I hope by writing about what has befallen her helped you in some way to come to grips with what is happening. There is fear in your poem, which is understandable, but you will be just fine. Believe and trust in a higher being to help and guide you during this time. I am sending a virtual hug as well as my prayers. May God bless you!

Thx so much my dear! And the good news is that my mother, against all odds, made an amazing recovery - she was in shock after a haemorrhage, lost all her marbles for about 48 hours, but then woke up next day lucid! Some word finding difficulties still, but pretty sharp! So my story, at least this time around, has a happy ending! Must have been your prayers!
Best wishes
Sharyn

My prayers are with you, dear one. Was a Home Health Aide in Hospice and have worn red pearls too. You do a fantastic job of creating imagery that is so exact. Now I am an older woman, and wait in dread for this horror to pass my doorway emblazoned in blood. Most excellent work - just wonderful.

Sherry thank you so much for reading & "getting" my piece! Ironically, in this case, my mother was misdiagnosed - she'd gone into shock after a huge blood loss associated with a nose bleed that turned into a haemorrhage - she's always been a little nutty anyway, but the blood loss threw her over the edge ... she spent about 24 hours completely and utterly gone, then went to sleep, and woke up relatively lucid. She's actually back home now, and is sharp enough to be managing her own financial affairs etc still. But the small taste was enough and yes, it's something we all dread - which of course was my underlying theme ... something that is not especially comfortable or comforting to think about! Best wishes & "mahalo" for your review, Sharyn

I am so sorry to hear about your mother. It is such a hard thing to cope with.Hopefully soon, a cure or least an effective treatment will be found. In time for us to avoid it.Lovely poem, but I am so sorry it was written under such sad circumstances. My prayers are with you and your family~Debbie

Well in my case, I'm happy to say, there's actually a "happy" ending - she was misdiagnosed! She lost a great deal of blood with a haemorrhaging nose bleed, went into some kind of "shock" reaction which lasted a couple of days and, do you believe, woke up lucid??? We were in shock - both times! But thank you so much for your good wishes Debbie! Best wishes, Sharyn

What a difficult thing to hear! No cure for dementia
and no hope of positive change. This is even a little
difficult to read through because of the strong imagery.
Having had a mother who had the 'A' decease, I am aware
of the changes that come. Be strong for her...

Well, that is a happy ending...
She has been blessed!
LOL!!!

For this time, yes. The signs are there, but we're hoping it will be slow now ... much better than the first alternative! Thank you for your good wishes my dear!

Well, much good luck to you!

This is a disease that I cannot understand. How it removes the dignity and memory from persons of intelligence. Your poem was well written with good emotional fervor. I hope that your mother will be at peace with your and herself... John

red pearls = blood Ray ... see the first simile ... let me know if you think it needs to be clearer (or if you have any suggestions - you they're always welcome!)
"then spews blood and half masticated pills
across my white dress â?¦
like fluid red pearls"
-
I'm sorry. I really missed the meaning, and the fault is entirely mine. This makes the poem even better. Ray.

ooh good! so glad!
Comment from terry drake
By all means pearls are not supposed to be red if you find one beware that is how the story goes. Interesting story line and I read it freely with some ease.

FS has taken away all my sixes, else I would like surrender one for this piece. It is strong, emotional, visual and stays true via structure to that voice of fear, pain, empathy. Good write.
