This letter looks good to me. If You want them to know something about military family life, you have achieved it. Letters are used to express your feelings or tell an event.
Put down what you want your receivers to know. This includes your thoughts and how you feel.
Thanks for sharing

I love this idea and I'm still contemplating it for my grandchildren. Life lessons, faith, and a history of the family's journey is so valuable these days. We seem to live vicariously through the lives of actors and through video games, than hear it from our families. Thank you for sharing, Barbara, and for your family's service and sacrifice.
Blessings to you all.

Hi Barbara, I'm sure your grandchildren will be very interested in you being stationed in so many places. So far, this letter is very general. I'm certain your grandchildren would like to know some of the things you experienced in more detail. How did you and their grandfather reacted to certain events, the customs of certain countries, the food etc. There must be loads of material. Ulla:)))

The next letter will be more detailed its on 'It may surprise you to learn when I was young...' I'm trying to stay with the topic for each letter right now. I really struggled with this one because I wanted to go into more detail but I'm at a word limit. GRRR

Oh I see. Yes, that would set some limitations.

Barbara, As I read this I was thinking of how proud your granddaughters will be to have this information which is like history. They will be proud of what their grandfather did in the military. This time capsule is a great idea! Thank you for sharing with us. love and blessings, Teri

"Grow where you're planted" is a true lot great lesson, especially in the military.
This is a very cool idea. I think it will bless your grandchildren in many ways, long after you are gone.

So many family members stayed in their homes and complained. Get out and experience life. Thank you for the kind support.

I'm glad to see you posting these letters. We will certainly enjoy them here on FS, but it's something your grandchildren will cherish for years to come.

I know so little about my parents as they were not really forthcoming with details about their lives. I lived away from my dad from age five, so I know even less about him. My mom I was able to observe and get hints about her and her life. My mother's mother I knew very little about and my dad's mom I did not meet until I was twenty eight years old, so, you figure out that there was not a lot of information there. I have a post on FS called "Meeting Grandmother Josephine". I think your grand daughters will learn that there may be a lot of similarities that you share and that should draw you even closer. At least that is my hope.

Thank you for the support the next letter is 'It may surprise you to learn that when I was young...' I'm thinking of writing about remembering getting a color TV and the land lines for phones, stuff like that.

They will probably be shocked out of their socks to learn how primitive your lives were back in the day. LOL.

I know. LOL

What a beautiful legacy to leave Barbara. How kind of you. Do you speak German? I learnt to speak it in high school. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences. Greetings from Thailand. Jacqueline xx

I did speak conversational German but have forgotten most of it from lack of use. Two of my children speak it fluently. I am fluent in Spanish. Thank you for the support.

My pleasure. And thank you for all of your support, suggestions and help. Jacqueline xx

War- wall. I was in Germany during the Cold War -1956-58 Before the wall. I can relate with this and the families' feelings. However, it is a privilege to know you guys were career minded.

Thank you for the support. I'm sure 1956-1958 was a lot different. During our first tour we still had Alerts, until the wall came down. It wasn't unusual while teaching first grade to have armed soldiers walking through the school when the Russians moved closer.

Yea, we got there in Oct-56 one month before Russia invaded Hungary. We stayed ready often.
