I hate to think that you have suffered through all of this. You're right, though, that we here are a second family, and we watch each others' backs. Thank you for sharing this poem, and best wishes to you.

Debi, I love that you are opening up and making yourself vulnerable. It makes for deeper and more meaningful poetry. You've traveled a troublesome road and experienced a lot of pain. I know it's difficult to pick at those scars but I think if you continue to share some of that in your poetry, you will write great things.

Bill Withers "Lean on Me" and James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend" are probably two of my most favorite songs!
And you, my dear are becoming one of my favorite writers on this site!

Very brave of you to candidly share this and use it to express the value and distinction between a constructive criticism approach and the opposite and the effects it can have. As long as somebody continues to write and improve based on fair and constructive feedback, their voice and words should be heard and respected.
Those that may not wish to improve - very few here on FanStory, if any - should be given the same chance initially before deciding your time is possibly wasted and moving on; simply the real world expectation for most of us who struggle to find the time (on occasion) to post and review others' work thoroughly.
Thanks for posting this!

Beautifully written! The presentation is a bit remarkable. You start with a very fun-looking picture of a group of cats and dogs and even a rabbit.
Your poem shares personal trauma and tragedy, followed by redemption, understanding, and love.
The song is a wonderful rendition reminding us we must lean on one another.
I say some fine writing combined with an artistic eye creates an exceptional presentation. Terry.

With the powerful words of this wonderful song ringing in my ears, the wonderful sentiments of your powerful poem registering in my brain, I am near tear when I think that there may be someone right now in need of my help who has not figured out that I cannot help you if you do not reach out. I cannot turn on the light if I do not know that you are stumbling in the dark.

I love "Lean on Me" and thank you for gracing my Sunday with this wonderful rendition. At our best in life, in poetry, in family, and friendship, we do, indeed, reach out with quiet respect and encouragement and support one another along our paths. I enjoyed your aabb rhyme scheme throughout each stanza, and most importantly I love the positivity here. There will always be a few who fall short
with less than positive comments. FanStory is a micorcosm of life...and Lord knows many of us fall short in one area or the other!
When our self worth comes from within and from our faith, all others will not succeed in defeating our spirits. There is much to love here. I'm going to (like you do in this poem) praise the goodness --and if someone has been cantankerous, I hope to catch him or her in thier best light and encourage THAT!
Congratulations on the nomination of this for poem of the month!

Thank you for sharing this beautifully written poem with us. Yes, our FanStory family does have each other's back. That reminds me of somebody who's been on my heart lately, Begin Again, have you heard anything about her? I pray daily, but now I am worried.

Hi Barb, I thank you so much for such kind words for this poem. I do remember begin again, and as much as she wasn't my regulars like you and some others, I think she was a lovely person. Have you tried to pm outside yet? Let me know if you find out anything, ok ? In the mean time, there is always room for prayer, and I will do so.
I hope this poem shows you how very much you mean to me. Thanks again, my dear friend!

I love this picture- you are brilliant at hunting these out! The sentiments are timely and eloquently expressed; You get far more from kindness and encouragement than being over-critical!

This is a wonderful poem and you're so honest forthright about all that you say about yourself. You say that you finally got the monkey off your bag in your situation. I came to a time that I was able to get the monkey off my back, so to speak, as well. I really did enjoy your poem. You have presented it well and it rhymes very well. Patricia.
