Hello Paul, a timely poem. Your poem reads and flows well and has vivid imagery within ... crimson in the snow. Of special note:
Will tyranny enjoy its consummation,
Or freedom still be there when comes the dawn?
(Freedom ... the million-dollar question.)
Silky rhyming. The photo speaks for itself. Well done. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Your sonnet contest entry is in great form. I enjoyed the way you expressed your thoughts and feelings about this scary situation. Great job with the sonnet style, the image, the smooth flow, and the message. It is a tense time, and many innocents are at risk of dying.
Best wishes in the contest.
Respectfully, Jan

Thanks, Jan. I have never seen such an outpouring of concern throughout the world.

Paul, this is very well written piece. While reading, I questioned how America would react in such a position, I can't see Biden, Pelosi, Waters or the Squad taking up arms
against an enemy. God bless the people of Ukraine. Wish I had a six for you.

Thanks, Willie. Thank God that Zelinsky is president of Ukraine and not Biden.

Excellent poetic form that captures the feelings of the invasion of Ukraine. Your words bring forth feelings and you give a voice to the Ukrainian people. Excellent poem for today's world.

Thank you for sharing this, it is a great entry for the contest. My heart goes out to Ukraine, and I pray that God will be with the people there. Our church has some missionaries who have stayed in that country, so of course, we are watching the situation.

I am finding it very difficult to speak of this evil -- the man, Putin, is depraved. God help the peaceful people of Ukraine, God help us all. It is unthinkable, and your sonnet expresses this beautifully. I loved, especially, the turn, and the highly evocative closing couplet... *sigh*

You're welcome. Yes, agreed, sadly.

An angst written sonnet where the first two stanzas describe the terrifying situation where an innocent people face loss of freedom. Line 8 captures how the world at large doesn't want to get involved. The game of chess is a good metaphor. The image at the end makes this reader shudder. Good luck in the contest.

There are certain things that people say, that
let's me know that they are good hearted people.
And this is one of them moments. For, we live in
a society, where the american people trapped in
the realm of vanity. Caught up on self so much, that
they are oblivious that we are on the verge of World War.
And this won't be against little old Iraq. Nevertheless, you are
dope. And vastly appreciated. Keep Writing. And try not to forget
to stop by to talk. Either way, Stay Connected

Thanks for the review. I see your poems, and when I read them, I see that you and I are from different generations and cultures. I have hesitated to review your stuff but will try to do better in the future.

Wow, that couplet was extremely powerful, but sincerely hope it doesn't come to pass. The artwork was very well chosen and the poem rhymed well. I pray this conflict will come to a peaceful end.

Paul,
Thanks for writing about this tragic, horrific development. The " distance" of NATO captured the desperation. Your recognition of their bravery and the world-impacting stakes of this war is effective. All the technical aspects of your writing are sound, but my even mentioning that feels odd considering the real pain inherent in the topic.
Have you read "Embassy" by W. H. Auden? I recommend it .
Once again, oppressors and power-seekers prevent peace.
