This is a lovely poem, very well done, Janet. We have had snow instead of rain. The N?W wind has been blowing steadily and I can' keep warm. LOL I can't help but look forward to spring. Good Job . Nancy:)

Hello Janet, this is lovely. Well written, nostalgic poem with both perfect rhyme abab and meter. Beautifully worded and a good description of autumn. Autumn can be a lovely season with colourful sunsets. Such a lovely poem lying around for years neglected - now it comes forth to receive notices. A lovely read and gorgeous sunset - my favourite time of day for sky-gazing. Hope all is well you and you are well - take care - warm wishes Dorothy xx

Thank you for your encouraging review and the extra special stars. We lived in Northwest PA until about 16 years ago when we moved south to be near children and grandchildren. PA is a beautiful state.

You have done such a good job of describing the end of a season as autumn goes and winter sets in. October is my favorite month (it's also my birthday month :-)), so I enjoyed your poem very much. I especially liked this part because it reminds me of cool fall days when I was young and I loved to walk in the park and make piles of leaves to jump in.
"Old musty leaves swirl down and scatter near and far
and leave the noble trees bereft of glory fair."

Thank you for sharing.
Susan

Nice rhymes and recollections of my least favorite time of year. The "musty leaves" part reminds me of item 7 on my wife's current list of things I must do. Enjoyed it.

like this formal verse about the changing season in October and what that portends like the last line

The fear I have gives cause to weep-
How long can we, this freedom keep?

glad to see another retiree writing poetry in their retirement. I retired from the State Department in 2016 where did you work?

I like four seasons. This a piece of good writing describing October. October is a good month to watch the yellow or brown or red leaves. Such colorful leaves can be a beautiful scenes.

The author chose to show the bare trees like: "Old musty leaves swirl down and scatter near and far and leave the noble trees bereft of glory fair." It delivers a different message to prepare for spring time. That is good too.
