As they say, 'the eyes are the windows to the soul.' Your free verse is super, Yvonne--a virtual 6. Your use of descriptive words/phrases describe Stewart as the awesome man, son, friend, and EMT he is. Readers (me) get a chance to learn of this hero due to your awesome free verse about him. I love the way you mentioned the sparkle in his eyes early in you free verse and concluded with that expression. I could see everything you mentioned and feel like I know him a bit better.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Thank you so much. With all due respect, he's not an EMT. He's a paramedic, which is more advanced than an EMT. 8-)

So sorry, Yvonne. Please forgive mean I remember reading in your poem 'paramedic.'

I love the words to your poem they are so true. Most mothers can tell things about their child more by their eyes than the words they say.
When one of my great grand son was born Looking into his I just knew he would be different That day I nicked him eyes
Later we found out he had emotional and other problems and that I pray for days for him and my daughter his grandmother who has been raising him.Since birth
Take care

I hope all your prayers are answered concerning your grandson. Nothing is more painful to a mother/grandmother than something wrong with their child.

Your son looks like a caring person and one can tell by looking at his picture. My granddaughter does the same kind of work and people say the same about her. Two people to be proud of. Caregivers the both.

This is a lovely tribute poem to a son who is also a paramedic with kind qualities to be admired both in his career and with a nine-year-old daughter. Warm and compassionate eyes are definitely a great asset; they might be what we have all come here to earth to acquire, or at least work on. Thanks for sharing! I thought you did a great job with free verse, with only the suggestion of a half-rhyme with 'caring' and 'endearing.'

Well, I know it wasn't exactly what it should be, but it was on my heart to write it. Thank you for reviewing.

I adore this verse and the use of FreeVerse as the mechanism you chose to honor your son. What a lovely way to describe him ~ sparkle~ that says so much about his character. Well done on this poem, Yvonne.

What a beautiful tribute to your son here and your words are full of love and the care you have for him. He sounds like a kind and warm-hearted person who gives so much in his job. A hero at work and a wonderful father at home, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you. I'm so glad you could see what a wonderful man he is. I always said God knew I didn't know what I was doing, so He sent me good material to work with. 8-)

This is a Beautifully written poem.seeing him play house with a nine year old daughter is very endearing. He lives for others and nothing shows it more than the sparkle in his eyes. Nice photo.

Great free verse poem and I love the story that it tells. You've painted a wonderful picture of your son's compassion and zest. The world needs more shining, sparkling people like him.
A really small thing... I wonder if in the second line it shouldn't be shiny things (plural) in sunlight, as the two preceding words are pluralized.

This free verse, Sparkling Eyes, describes the glistening, living crystals that blink, and wink and remind us that there is a kind heart and a keen mind behind those sparkling eyes.
