This is a strong free verse poem and an excellent entry. I enjoyed the poem within the poem. It gave a nice echoing reminder of her longing heart left behind.

Very nice free verse poem for the contest. Excellent artwork to compliment your work. Vivid imagery throughout and good use of alliteration.

Well done.

This is a very good, very sophisticated poem and the illustration is perfect. I have several thoughts that come to mind after reading your poem. What do people have that have never had this kind of emotion? Are they better off never having loved, or of had the loss of it? To realize a love has passed for whatever reason, and to move on takes courage. Secondly, not everyone has the courage and they end up drowning in their continued sorrow until it's a habit that they can't break. I never want to be one of them. Hey, best wishes.

Hi Victor... all very good questions... To me is the lovers pathos... unable to say goodbye. It is truly sad. Courage is th operative word. I think you are right that to take back your life and become whole again... that is the answer... yours, diana

Great poem. I love the use of the stand-alone lines in italic - they had such power and emphasis. It also seems to mark the passage of time - a theme that has importance in the story you tell. Well done.

Great job with your free verse 'ditty' as she keeps watching for her Captain's return. Nice alliteration with the - essence evaporates -
Love the final verse - nailing drapery over her reality - great line. Good luck in the contest.
cheers.

Excellent poem! This is to me an excellent poem. It describes what is going on and what this woman thinks what will happen in the end. At the end she walks away. Excellent work!

this is a fine tale of longing and unrequited love. I was taken by surprise when I got to witness her turning out and never looking back..

This is a sweet, sad, love poem/story. I guess after a while, the heart sometimes gets restless when it seems like the thing desired seems to be only a dream. I like how you've constructed this with hope initially. Then, at the end, her heart had waited and tried to believe long enough. She already felt in her heart that he wasn't coming back long before she gave in to it. You've done a superb job with this well written poem. I enjoyed reading it! Well done. You should do well in the contest with this!

This is a sad, poignant and well-written poem, and the inserted "parenthetical phrases" add a personal touch, bringing the reader "behind the scenes." You did well at creating a mood of sadness and loss.

Hey kahpot: This poem needed to write itself and I needed it to be realistic. No Hollywood endings here. yours, diana
