Hello royowen, A timely poem of honest reflection and one that many can relate to. Of special note:

Remember, God can build you up but also tear you down;
and if your pride has been misplaced, you'll wear a tarnished crown.

(The above is so true, but pride with balance can make Man stride to be a better person and make he world a better place. However, sadly, many times greed and an over-zealous ego gains control and ultimately destroys all.)

Your poem is beautifully written with silky rhyming and leaves the reader with much to ponder both personally and on a worldwide scale. Terrific artwork choice. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

This poem reminds us that no one is too big to fail. There exists now a nation that is made of rhetoric, and somehow fears decision making. The difference between what we were and what we'll become is our rejection or acceptance of principles.

Your poetry always has such wonderful messages! I enjoyed this poem for it made me reflect on our present day situation. I have just finished watching the two conventions. There is a need to find that place "in between".... Having hope and pride in our nation as the greatest on earth vs sending out a message that our county is hopelessly lost. Nice work.

I really enjoyed reading this. It was well written and thought provoking. Yes, God wants us to be humble. Pride can destroy, and so can 'false pride' which some individuals don't understand they have. There are so many paradox's in the Christian life & bible: "Surrender to win. For when I am weak, then I am strong" to name a couple. Thanks for sharing this with us.

At this time the United States is being watched by all. Poems like yours will help to inspire people to stand up for what they believe is right and good. The rhyme, although a bit old fashioned, works here because you are calling your readers to look back into history to find the solution for today's problems.

Absolutely, Roy, in the same way as businesses become complacent with the monopoly on all, suddenly things change. Respect must be given, whatever the entity or one can quickly loose all one had, even though it did not seem feasible.
Good write.
My best wishes.

I wholeheartedly believe that the further we put God behind us the weaker we become. Your poem embodies so many truths and warnings. But how many will heed them. We have become a nation of me and not a democracy. Squeaky wheels that don't see the whole picture. Stunning poem. Gretchen

What a terrific message and a great reminder to us all to have humility in our lives. Oh how the mighty fell and drifted into history books. The sad thing is that there's always someone to step into the shoes of the fallen mighty. Thank you for sharing.
Bless you
John

When we have a political party pushing hate and exclusion, we have a big choice to make this Fall.
Our votes will really matter. This is a turning point in our nation.
We have to pull together and let Love win over hate.
Walk in the other man's shoes and show compassion and understanding without weakness.

There are enough good people out there to vote the greedy and prideful out of office. Change is possible.
